Both boxes are great. I prefer the TST... but only because I have it stacked on the Smarty (for timing).

If you have a trouble free Edge Comp, and like it, I would keep it. Newer is not always better and many of the newer Edge boxes have had troubles. Edge takes good care of those with problems... but it's still a pain to return it for service.

Are you planning more HP? If not...sell Comp Box and by a Smarty. It is better around town and for daily driving! If planning more hp, it's your choice for boxes, based on how much you want to spend.

TSt with a Smarty does fuel more heavily... but both are needed!

Yes... But not worth the money, IMO, because your stuck with the Edge timing and it's the newer, more sophisticated Smarty timing that I prefer.

As always, just my $.02. Others will disagree, I'm sure.

The Smarty/TST stack is definitely more potent than the Edge Comp by itself. On my last trip to the dyno, I ran with this setup and put down the numbers in my sig. It was more than the Edge Comp, although I don't have a good comparison since my previous runs with the Comp were on Dynojets. But I can tell from SOP and EGT that the TST/Smarty fuels MUCH harder. And I prefer the timing built into the Smarty, vs the timing in the Comp (especially with the HO).

You probably ought to read post #4 in this thread. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=107521

My last dyno results showed that a drag Comp does do better with the stock ECM than when used with a Smarty, on my truck.

The combination that produces the most power may well be an EZ stacked with the TST on a stock ECM.

I'm wondering if there is a difference between how the HOs and the SOs respond to the timing difference between an Edge Comp and the Smarty/TST stack?

I've been much more satisfied with the Smarty/TST stack and the numbers were up. But I've also been happier with the timing difference between the Edge and the Smarty since the Edge always made the HO sound much harsher with the timing advance.

I've run the comp, comp/smarty, tst, and tst/smarty. My vote goes to the TST all the way. Even without the smarty it fuels much harder than the comp (my egt's went up 200* and boost was up 8 psi without the smarty). Stack the TST with the smarty and it is a very powerful, smooth, destructive power curve. I love my TST. My comp was a great box but I felt that I had out grown it. That and I found a TST for the same price I got for my comp so it was a pretty easy decision. I just wish I had dynoed with the comp/smarty so I could see what kinda power it was making.

No brainer....ditch the comp. Do a search on fried VP44's, and see how many were hooked to a comp. Additionally, I love my TST.

I don't think the comp kills the VP, lift pumps/low pressure kills pumps.

Any tap pump box will kill a VP but I think the comp it probably the most widey used box and thats the reason you see some dead VPs with the comp.

I see I wasn't the only one who sat up and took notice of Tim's remarks. You think the huge sticks have something to do with it? I dunno if Tim's running m7's or m8's now a days

Are you still running dd3's and those drugs?

I, too, remember that thread. Also noted TIM has a cam job, which may make a difference. I'm just not sure that if a comp works best on a truck with a,b,c mods... that it applies to a truck with d,e,f mods. I don't mean 'I don't think it does'..... I mean 'I don't know'.

I do know the Smarty/TST drives better, IMO, than the EZ/TST did. I especially like no EZ timing rattle in the cold weather.
I also wish TIM had disclosed how much difference he saw with the Comp over the Smarty/TST?

If your hooked on the Smarty, like I am, for daily drivability reasons, I believe the TST is the way to stack! If your out for max HP, the Drag Comp may be the first choice???
