TST PowerMax Mounting

Looking for ideas on where you guys have mounted your TST box. I've got the remote, which I'm planning on mounting just left of the ashtray below the bezel. But trying to figure out the best place to put the main unit. I've only seen one mounting location before, but that was in an auto truck, so that location doesn't work.

Considering the weight of the main unit, I wasn't sure how well velcro would work in a location where the unit is hanging under on or the dash.

I'm gonna mount the remote either in the cubby hole beside the radio or make a custom one for the overhead mount. The unit itself I'm just gonna stuff under the dash somewhere if I can fit it. I can't wait for mine. Should be here end of the week or the start of next.

I considered just going under the dash with it, but I wanted to keep it in reach so I could switch it on and off as needed. But then again, maybe I should play with it first to figure out whether I'll run with it off, or just turned down.

The remote will turn the unit on and off by itself.

Hmmm...I didn't think the remote had the capability of turning the unit totally off. It can switch down to level 0 which is stock, but I thought I had to hit the switch on the main unit to switch it totally off.

After thinking about it tonight, I may just hide the unit and only keep the remote visible. I'll probably end up running on one of the low levels most of the time, then crank it up when I need it. So I wouldn't have to worry about hitting the switch at all.

Your right, it don't. Oh well. Who likes to turn their box off anyways? I sure as heck don't. Although the tranny would like me to.

My buddy run the remote up through the back of the ash tray (he cut a hole in the ash tray) and left the remote in the ash tray. Want to turn it up, just drop the tray and turn it up and no one knew unless he popped the hood.

I have mine velcroed to the kick panel below the steering wheel, just in front of my right knee. Never knocked it or had it fall off in over a year now. I used the "heavy duty/industrial" strength velcro. It doesn't all make contact due to the curve in the panel, but enough to hold it in place. I have the remote mounted just about level with the ignition, and a little to the right of it.
I'll post a pic if you like

I removed a panel and zip tied the box to a vertical bar right over the brake. I can reach down and flip the switch pretty easily. I ran the remote to the cubby hole and just pick it up to change levels. The problem is that the lights on the remote activate when the tst has time to update them and not real time like the box so I can't see exactly when the tst activates =\ Eventually I'll velcro the remote somewhere, but this seems to be working well so far.

Absolutely correct! But why ever turn it off? With the '0' setting...I see no need. (plus, more power is a button away while there is some delay when turning the box from off to on).

As Ph4tty mentioned....seeing the light on the box is a definite advantage, IMO. I use the fueling light (on the box) to establish best mileage setting for hwy driving. This setting changes with different speeds and different mods ..... tires, replacement bumpers, smarty settings, etc. You want the fueling light off when cruising for best mileage.... and the remote fueling light is not sensitive enough!

I could never find any place I was not using to mount the remote, so I put "braille" bumps on the up & down arrows to change settings, shortened the cord and tucked it out of the way, but in reach...under the dash. However, the dash mounts do look shape. I would wait till you drive with it a while before deciding where you want it...based on how you use it. JMO.

Just to the right of the parking brake release you can cable tie the base unit to some bracing under the dash. Crank the ties down tightly and it'll hardly move. I though about doing the mount more permanantly, but why. It is pretty solid. You can still see the light and access the switch easily. The remote I velcro'd to the top of the steering column. I'll try and post pictures later.

Rowland, how did you put the "braile bumps" on the remote? I need a tutorial on that! I hate that doggone thing....it's almost imposssible to adjust at night . And I agree, you could just use "0" on the remote if your box was in a hidden spot although the boost light is a lot more sensitive on the box than the one on the remote. You have to be into the throttle harder for the light to come on, on the remote.

And almost impossible to read setting in direct sunlight! But once you settle into a cruise setting, and remember it...no need to ever look at it again!

You can use almost anything. I first tried drops of glue...just enough to build up a small mound. But they rubbed off after 4 months.
I ended up using some felt furniture pads I had around the house. You know the kind for under legs on wood floors (with adhesive on the back)?
I cut two VERY small pieces and thinned them down till it felt just right!
I wanted those small, white, dome, plastic, non slip things (seen them for bottom of desk top computer speakers)...but could not find any. I think they would be perfect.

Anything with adhesive on the back will work. Let me know when you come up with something better?

Hmmmm, I'll have to think about what I've got around the house that will work. Great idea! I've got some of the cool chem glue.....kinda like a super glue/ epoxy mix. You use the one tube like super glue, then you have a spray that activates it like an epoxy. It works pretty doggone well. I'll just have to see what I can put on there. Wait, I've got a big roll of velcro. Maybe I'll just cut out some triangles the shape of the up and down arrows. They already have the adhesive on them. I'll just use the hook side because it'll have more texture. I'll let you know how it works.
