TST POWER MAX 3 Vs. EDGE COMP BOX

Ok guys I know everyone will have an opinion on this I currently run a comp box and I am concidering a TST powemax 3 I have heard that the TST will make more top end then the comp and uses less timing I was also wondering about smoke control on the TST. See I currently have a comp but if I can get more top end HP from the TST I want it. Anyone have any info on this?

Jammie,

I have the TST in my 99. At first it was all I had. I could see a little smoke on setting 8 and 9. It would kick in
at around 2,300 rpm. I liked it alot. Then Justin Rawlings added his edge ez to the picture. It gave me increased power from the start. Then I had no suddedn kick it was there
from the start. Then I added the dd3's. Now I have lots of smoke.

I know this wont help, but I thought I would share my experience. I have a friend dodgeboy5.9 on here that has the comp box. Pm him and ask his advice. That is one of our topics for discussion
this coming saturday night. I will get back to you ASAP.

This a highly debated topic.

But the Edge Drag Comps and Custom Comps will hold up against any of the competitors boxes in my opinion.

But Stacking is also a very nice option to go with.
I like the FMS premium and EZ combination.

--Justin

Re:TST POWER MAX 3 Vs. EDGE COMP BOX

To further add some confusion to the stacking stuff:

We recently attempted to stack a TST PM3 Competition (new box) with both an EZ (new box) and Bully Dog Torque Dog+ (new box). Neither stack worked on an ETH equipped truck, and indeed it robbed us of 2 PSI of boost, as well as a noticeable decrease in the bottom end power.

We chalked it up to the ETH truck not liking the combo. So then we attempted another stack, this time an ETC truck with a PowerMax3 (not the Comp) and an Edge EZ (7 month old box) and Bully Dog Torque Dog+ (new box). Same result: the bottom end power disappeared. In this case, we couldn't tell if we had lost some boost, as the customer doesn't have enough turbocharger.

We placed a phone call to Mark Chapple at TST to ask about what our problem could be, and he feels that we have too much timing advance for the amount of fuel that the TST box provides, or the Edge (which reduces pulse length at lower RPMs) isn't giving the TST box enough pulse length to play with.

It looks to me as though TST made some changes to their boxes in recent months, and that the stack may not be working. We may have some issues with the particular trucks we attempted the stacks on, but I don't think so. The end results were just too comparable.

Rod

Re:TST POWER MAX 3 Vs. EDGE COMP BOX

A few things that play a roll with my truck and testing those combinations...one would be the Stage 3 injectors and the other would be the VP-44 limitations on the ETH. Not for long though. ;D

I could tell very easily that I had WAY too much timing advance when I stacked the EZ and TST Comp as well as the Bully and Comp. My egt went down 50F at WOT and I lost 2 psi of boost with the stacks.

Running the TST Comp with my combination of power is really nice smooth power with good bottom end. The smoke is actually down a bit from the Edge Drag Comp but the power band is better.

I think that over the past few years theres been some changes to all the products out there...fine tuning. ;D

Jamie:

My son (nickname on DTR: banshee) stacked a DD
TTPM on top of his TST PM 3 and it made a HUGE
difference in his bottom end power!

He has a 2001 Dodge CTD, Auto (ETC) with what
is listed above and DD "Super Mental" Injectors,
Piers' HX-40, Scotty II and a 4" exhaust.

John I bet its the ETH ETC issue as well as perhaps the TST Comp has the timing in it that negates the need for the EZ...So far I think that is whats happening. If we were closer we could swap and test them. ;D How old is that TST Powermax 3?

Hey Rob!

How old is your EZ? I'm trying to pinpoint why the stacks didn't work for us, as stacks we did last year worked just great.

Rod

Re:TST POWER MAX 3 Vs. EDGE COMP BOX

Hey, i have a comp on my truck and it makes a hell of a difference. From what i know the TST PM is just a fueling box. It does not change the timing on the pump. The Tst pm works best stacked with an edge ez, because the ex advances the timing to get the best response. The comp however is a fueling and a timing box, so its really a tst pm and ez combined. This way u buy one box instead of two. The TST pm3 and comp are rated at the same hp gain, but the Ez will add another 65 hp to the tst. If you was wanting to buy only one box, a comp is the best, if you have plenty of money and want extreme performance and hp buy the tst and an ez to stack. I love my comp, and would not trade it for a tst. It has only three connection, the same to as an ez plus a pump wire which is easy to find. Any more questions just pm me.
