TST PM3 problem.

I picked up a used PM3 with R35 remote and am having some issues. The red power light is on. The yellow boost light is on, but glowes fairly bright at idle. The green fuel light will glow brighter with throttle. The problem is that the remote will turn on and off by itself. The box never shuts off however. When the remote comes on and off the truck will buck and surge as fuel is added and taken away. The green light also goes on and off at the same time. If I unplug the remote, it is better, but it still does the same thing. I soldered all of the connections except for the pump tap. For that I am using a pump cover. I have checked the fuse and it is good. Ground is at the black/tan wire in the pump harness and power at the red/green at the firewall. Anyone have any ideas as to what may be wrong? If I can't find the problem, I will contact TST next week.

TIA for any help.

Sounds like you have covered all the normal bases. Give Mark or Scott a call and they will get you squared away. Don't worry, it will be sweet once you get it figured out!

I am sure that I will like it better than the Comp. I will be able to use my Smarty to it's full potential with the PM3. I was just hoping that someone might have had a similar problem and could point me in the right direction. I did find a broken wire today in the MAP sensor adapter harness and thought that I found the problem, but it didn't cure it .

When I first put my PM3 Comp on, the spring inside the fuse holder was too smashed, and not putting out enough pressure to make a good contact. I stretched it out, and it's worked great ever since.

I remembered reading a post about that same problem some time ago. I gave that a try as well with no success. Keep the good ideas coming though!

MLR1,
I had a VERY similiar problem while driving from KY to CO over Christmas. On the R35 remote the yellow fuel light indicates that the TST has control over the fuel system. The green boost light will only come on while the TST is actually fooling (adding boost) to the stock system.

While cruising on I-70 some @#$^$ decided he needed to be in my lane with me. I stomped the brakes and the truck bucked hard. Check engine light came on and the R35 went black. Serious loss of power for about 5-minutes. Then the R35 suddenly came back on and all was well. At our next fuel stop (check eng light still on) I decided to swap my MAP sensor - my usual cause of the CE light. After doing this the truck went into "limp mode." I checked the fuses, wiggles connections, etc. Power level showed on the R35 but no fuel or boost light. The actual PM3 box appeared normal. Long story short I wound up unplugging the TST and finished the drive stock. (CE light cleared.)

I contacted Mark at TST and he sent me the complete troubleshooting info (also on the TST site.) I went through everything and determined that the TST harness was bad. Planned to order one the following morning and wanted to expedite the repair so I started pulling my harness out of the truck. When doing this I found one of the bullet connecters at the TST-MAP sensor plug very tight. Separated with a pair of pliars and it broke into about 10 pieces. Replaced the bullet connectors (appeared tight and not corroded) and the truck has been awsome ever since.

Sorry for the long story - simply put you need to REALLY check all connections. Could you have a cold-joint (bad solder connection)? Is the pump cover making good contact? Etc. Take a good multimeter and and check all power connections per the TST site: http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp...n=Custom&ID=13
You will find the pin-out about 1/3 of the way down the page. If you contact TST this will be the first thing they want you to do... Good luck - you'll love it when you get it straight.

Whoo Hooo! got r fixed today. I removed the pump cover and soldered to the pump wire. I also replaced the fuse holder with an ATC type holder. All of the bugs are gone and it works wonderful. It is amazing how picky these things are about the connections. The pump cover worked just fine whit the Edge Comp.

Anyway, thanks for all the help guys.
I do appreciate it.
