Question TST Comp wire tap

For those of you using the TST Comp..... Does the pump wire have to be tapped to use this box? I was wondering if you didn't tap the pump wire would it be a regular TST Powermax3? I will eventually want to tap the wire, but I just bought a new IP and don't want to mess with a warranty issue. Once the warranty has expired I will be more than happy to tap that wire.....

on any of TST boxes you have to tap the wire.

this is straight from www.tstproducts.com in the Faq's section

The PMCE (Competition) adds 180 HP and 450 lb-ft Torque (on level 9) for the standard engine. The HO (High Output) engine (2001-2002) already has 245 HP and the PMCE (Competition) does not make as much of a difference and adds 80HP and 310 lb-ft of Torque.

which means on a standard truck due to the HO/VP you really are not getting anything with the COMP software upgrade compared to an AUTO with the SO/VP. You are also getting less compared to an AUTO with just the regular TSTPMax 3 too. either way you have to tap the wire. Competition upgrade is no more than a flash/software upgrade in the TST brain.

if a person puts a SO pump on a 6 speed than you should get more bang but still need to tap the wire.

I have 80k + miles on my VP and have always had the TST on it. but I also purchased my VP from www.sourceautomotive.biz who warranties the VP's they sell even if you Tap the VP.

Ok, so I am curious as to how much of that power will be gained by the SO pump on the HO truck.... I went ahead and traded the HO for an SO and am now looking at programmers.... I was going to try the TST PM3 with the TS MVP and see how well they play together and how good their street manners are....

Well this is from TST's website.
SO VP max is 120 HP (about 40HP) over a HO.
with the Comp upgrade would be 180HP on a SO.
cant squeeze much more out of the HO only roughly (80HP) with TST

The adjustable PowerMax3 is adjustable with a remote. Level 0 = stock power, 1 = 20 hp and 40 lb-ft above stock at the ground with each step up equaling about another 15 horsepower (tapering down at the higher levels) and 40 torque at the ground.

Power Level HP Torque
0 0 0
1 20 40
2 35 80
3 50 120
4 65 160 Max for stock automatic trans
5 80 200
6 90 240 Max for stock manual trans
7 100 280
8 110 320
9 120 360

I understand that, but what I am wondering is if the difference in ratings was due to the HO pump itself vs the SO, or is it the HO engine specs vs the SO specs. Because I am pretty sure that there is more difference between a HO truck and a SO truck than just an injection pump ECM programs. Or do those other changes that make it an HO or an SO truck not matter with the boxes because the injection pump is what matters.....
