Transfer case shifting- how difficult is yours??

My tranfer case shifts like a confused teenager that won't do as told.
Now there is the wack on it school and make it go in, the fuss with it and baby it school, and the fix it so it works right school.

I am in the last group.

How does yours shift into:

1)4Hi
2)4Low

I am not interested in the vacume shift motor part of the equation, just getting the change at the case to be as easy as possible. My PSD went into/out of 4x4 Hi like butter.

Thanks

Big Jimmy

goin' from 2wd to 4HI is a piece o cake....goes perfectly.....at 70 it takes a little pressure...but goes right in. 4LO can be a little tricky..sometimes it goes right in...sometimes i have to push the clutch in...and leave it in gear....sometimes I have to put it in nuetral and let off the clutch...but it always works.

mine works well for hi and lo i just normally stop and put it in neutral and then shift it in and it is like butter just like ur psd may have been. i am not one to shift it in on the fly. even though they say you can i dont believe in it. i always stop and put it in neutral. do u do it on the fly? maybe that has something to do with it i dont know.

Thanks guys. That tells me there is some tweeking to do. I'm not looking for 4 Lo perfection- I know thats a whole other gear set. But 4Hi should go in pretty much without a lot of fussing.

BTW, I am just more and more happy with this truck and its CTD.

I want six.
In line.
Turbocharged.

Anything else is just an engine...

the manual says you can shift into 4LO if your going under 3 mph...so I tried it one day...and It went in.....with a little bit of grinding as well.

it is definately better off to stop and then shift

4hi is just a tug backwards. 4 lo is cake.. neutral, moving <5mph, and without pausing, just slide the lever forward.

Keep Transfer Case Fluid changed regularly. I do mine @ 30,000 miles. For some reason it turns black quickly.

I do the same thing

every third oil change (moreso during deer season) I change out my t case fluid myself. I use Dexron Mercon III in the T case. The results have been great. I never have any trouble shifting from 2 to 4 hi, 4 lo on the other hand because i kinda have to zig zag a little on the T case i usually stop and shift into it. Ive never tried it moving, but my case goes into all ranges very easily and the 4wd works great, provided the posilock is already engaged....

I have honestly never put my truck in 4Lo..........never have had the need to do it. Also I think I have put my truck in 4Hi a total of ummmm 5 times. But everytime I've put it in, it pops right in and right out no problems

Oh and by the way, when the weather is crappy the truck stays parked!!!!!
