Trans relay remove and jumper wire?

Trans relay remove and jumper wire?
I was reading a tech page I found about lock up switch. And as I understand
the only purpose of removeing the trans relay and installing a jumper wire, is to allow a 2nd gear lock up...
In other words If you hook up a lockup switch and leave the relay in with no jumper wire you will only have 3rd and overdrive lock up... and the switch will work without removeing the relay...you just wont have 2nd gear lock up...??
Do I understand it correctly?
