Tranny heat exchanger and twin turbos
What seems to be the best set up for re-routing the heat exchanger for a 98 12V planning on twins. I'm looking at an S400 primary and an HTB2 for the upper. What problems has anyone encountered when moving the exchanger as far as extremes of outside temps. Here in Wisconsin we can see 20 below and 100 degree days in the summer. Any thoughts welcomed. Does anyone sell a kit for the heat exchanger by any chance?

I relocated mine just under the rad support, on the crossmember.
I modified the stock mount for the relocation.
Had to reroute the tranny and coolant lines.
Did this a couple years ago, no problems.
You can just see the tranny lines in the top of the pic.

B Kirk:
That's got to be one of the cleanest undercarriages I've seen in a long time. Just drove to work through all kinds of slop and slush with salt so it's almost impossible to keep it clean. Thanks for the post too!

i left mine in the stock location, and i run a 40 on top and a bht3e on the bottom with a 27cm exhaust housing. it was a tight fit and i had a hard time doing the exhaust but i really wanted to leave all the stock tranny lines.

How much work does the exchanger do , what about removing ?
I was thinking about putting the cooler in a under bed with fan & removing exchanger , just a thought for now this is my research to find out if the idea is possible.

It has only gotten down to the low teens here, so I can't comment about temps lower then that, but I haven't had any problems with the cold weather yet.

It depends on whose twin design you go with. My heat exhanger still exists in the stock location, with no bind, and the setup is so good I can pull them out and install them in one piece (both turbos, hot pipe and WG). One of the support brackets was ground a little though. See pic. The hardest part about installing them is lifting them into the engine bay, seriously. Once they are down by the engine they practically fall into place.
My twins are by TRE Diesel (Tim Barber).

Has anyone had trouble with the under-the-bed mount with a fan due to road debris, slush, rocks, etc. I like the thought of leaving it where it is if possible and cutting/grinding the bracket if necessary - thanks Stamey. I'm still trying to figure out how B Kirk keeps his so clean?

Thanks guys.
Those pics are from when I first completed the front end rebuild.
Everything had been just painted back then.
I am lucky enough to have a detached heated garage.
I always hose everything off when I pull it in from the slop.
And yes, sometimes have to use soap and a brush to clean it.
Like mentioned, I have had no problems with it in that location.
