Tranny Deep Pan versus Syn Fluids

I have been thinking about installing a Deep Pan on my 47RE Tranny (I will be towing 13k lb RV). As I was searching the history on the forum a question came up.

If "Amsoil Synthetic" and similar products "drop your temps ~ 20 degrees" as advertised, then would more frequent use of these higher cost fluids be a better use of "scarce $$$" than a deep pan?

The 47RE has ~17 quarts of fluid in it stock!

Has anyone changed from ATF4 to "Amsoil Synthetic" or other prem fluids and seen 20 degree plus drops on your tranny temp gauge??????

I went to the Amsoil ATF (AFT+4 Rated), but was at same time I rebuilt my tranny, and added a DDP, so can't comment on your question.

If I had to make your either/or choice, I would go to synthetic ATF first. It protects my DTT beautifully, and I work it hard. I consider the fluid protection more critical for a stock tranny than I do for my DTT.
I guess I'm saying the quality of the fluid passing through the tranny is more important to me than the temp it is at when it gets sucked from the pan.

Your other choice is Dodges AFT+4 fluid (not cheap) and change it more often. ATF formulations are spectacular at dissipating heat... but they do wear out more quickly when the fluid gets hot. Towing as you do, I would want the best ATF I could get!
