All i can say is from my experiences i will never pull my truck from the front or pull something else with my front again. We had a freinds jeep goin over a bank and i was behind him. There was no were for me to turn around with in a half mile, there was no time to back up that far 2 times because it was slowly goin over. I hooked up to my 2 mopar tow hook. threw it in 4 lo started backin up, almost got the jeep up enough to tie it off to the only tree close enough, when the 1 tow hook bracket tore in half where the 2 hook bolts go in it. From the quick snap the jepp slid down then the strap snaped. Bye bye. SO i suggest keep a shackle or hitch pin and use the rear reciever to pull these trucks, unless you got a road armor with a hitch. The rear end is where pullin should be done from on these trucks.

Why not loop the tow strap around the ball? What about locking the loop into the pintle hook? That's what we've always done up til now. What is the reason not to?

Because the ball isnt meant for using a yank strap. The ball is meant to pull a trailer. Trailer ***** have been known to break off and fly. I rather not get hit in the back of the head with a hitch ball. We are talking about a lot of energy here - you should use the proper equipment.

You've all given me much food for thought, and I thank you very much. Now, the new questions - DSS and front hitch. Time for a new thread, eh ??

Do they mount in the same place? Any pictures?

Also, Are these the Factory Hooks? They don't look as heavy duty as some I have seen.

It would take a hell of a lot of energy to break my 2.5/16 ball. I'd have to be jerking a barge off a mudflat to break that. I have heard of stuff like that happening, know a guy who is brain damaged from a tow hook that broke off a JD while pulling out a combine. I've got a really big shackle that fits a drawbar, I'll use that to hook to from now on.

Yeah, it would but still why would you risk it? A shackle is a better idea, JMO.

I posted a reply thanking you all last week, but it didn't go thru. So, thanks again. I ordered the Dodge tow hooks and they should be here anytime. I also, on recommendations here, then more research, ordered the DSS bar and it came in already. I'll install it this weekend. Rugged looking unit.

Late to this party but I have tow hook questions:

Would the tow hooks off of a 26,000gvw truck be strong enough?

Do the hooks have the rating on them someplace?

I think I'll pick some up at the big rig junk yard if they will fit.
