Yea those are just the 60lb springs from cummins I put those in my truck when my head gasket blew a month or two ago. I cant remember where they bind at but I do remember that my machine shop guy said that If i wanted to they have enough room to run a .800 lift cam

The problem is that I'm wasn't bored when this engine needed to be built. They're Cummins springs, the one's that are used on the exhaust side with an exhaust brake.

Moral of Brandon's story...Always check your coolant when you buy a truck

He's always about 2 miles ahead of me

The springs shouldn't bind-- they appear to actually have one FEWER winding than the stockers.

I agree, though that thicker wire when all else is equal makes coil bind worse, not better.

I don't see enough of a beehive effect to alleviate binding issues.

Look at a REAL beehive spring a-la late model small block Chevy, and you'll see that it's MUCH more pronounced.

Coil bind isn't the reason for a beehive spring-- valvetrain harmonics are. It just happens that other good things result: less bind, lighter retainers, etc.

Hmmm... so 6k rpm shouldn't be an issue.

Do you have to use those springs if you plan on using an EB? I got a tranny on the way, and said to build it for use with an EB. Also will these cause anyhing to wear out faster?

If you can use a vise to compress the spring, might be easier than a C-clamp

Your 01 should already have the heavy duty valve springs. IIRC, only the 12v's need to upgrade the springs to run an exhaust brake.

Even with our highest lift cam ( way over stock ) the 60 lb springs from Cummins have tons of clearance left at full lift.

I have a prototype Helix 4 that even has room left with the 60 lb springs. I had double the normal standard left.

The 60 lb 12 valve springs are great and work very well and to high RPM.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a sturdy enough C-clamp to test the stock or modified springs. The valvespring compressor was a rental.
