A shift kit will fix the 2800 rpm shifts. I just put one it my truck last week, all the shifts are at 2200 rpm now.

I used the TRANSGO kit. I had to go back and switch the throttle valve spring, the kit said to use the red spring I had to put the white one into get the shifts at 2200 rpm. This kit is NOT a DIY kit.

But mine will do the same thing (to 3rd at least) if the throttle isn't depressed enough. Good luck!
Does anyone know which pin to tap so it locks up in 2 instead of D? I want to install one but mainly for downhill runs where I could drop it in 2 and not have to use the brakes.

The 47RE locks in 2nd.... from the factory. Guess yours is a 47 RH... and it does not? I thought the 96's were the first year for the 47RE?
I came down Pikes Peak at gross wt. locked in second. Could have made it all the way with no brakes, if not for traffic. Assume you know it... but locked up in second is SLOW... unless your off roading?

With the standard lock up switch and your shift lever in #2...it should give you what you want.

Hmm, I do have a 47RE, I called the dealer with my VIN and that's what they told me. Maybe it does lock up then. Last time I was in the mountains, on the way down I dropped it into 2 but it felt like the truck was in neutral. The RPMs wouldn't go up either. I was only going about 20-25 mph, so I don't know if 2nd would've kicked in if I were to go faster. But anyway, I dropped it into 1 and coasted all the way down at about 15 mph.

It won't lockup coasting unless you put in the switch.

So I'm reading lots of positive on this mod and a few negative. What are the negatives on a stock trans assuming your not just a peddle to the floor from a stop. I'm more talking about only using this while towing in the MTN's of Colorado pulling our 26' TT, keeping 3rd locked sometimes isn't an option with the auto on the hills but it only drops to 3rd, not 2nd.

Thanks.

I use the lock up switch a lot... just in OD... for coming down long gradual slopes when third is too slow. Helps the brakes out quit a bit, IMO.

to the guy who's wife drives the truck--you can use a 3 position toggle switch. 1 stock 2 lock-up 3 unlocked. that's what i did on my 97, but i don't remeber how i did it. that was a long time ago. maybe someone will pipe in and refresh my memory. to everyone else--yes, you must use a little common sense when using this mod. i blew 4 TC's out of my truck when using this switch. maybe it was just the brand of converter that i was using, i don't know for sure, but they sounded like a bowl full of jelly beans when i pulled them out.

If you go to http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20...p%20Switch.pdf and read,it will explain most all your questions, how to install, and how your transmission should operate with it turned on,and turned off.
