Question Superchips and error codes?

I am asking the question. Would the Superchips retune of my truck cause the lift pump or the VP-44 to go out? I had it set to the tow safe mode. On a vacation trip yesterday I was pulling my 30' 5th wheel the engine lite came on and it started running real bad, extream loss of power. I barely made it back home the 120 miles. I checked the codes( P-0216, P-1693 and P-1694 came up.) Now it's in the shop to have them check it out. What do you think?

Those are the codes for the injection pump and lift pump. Looks like they will have to be replaced. Im not sure if the superchip caused that with the setting you had it on, but hopefully you put the original back in. I hope its under warranty!

Snorkel,
As Justin said this is the code for the injection pump. Do a search on here you will see this a very common problem. It was most likely not caused by your superchips.
If you are running the superchips while pulling get a full set of gauges (exhaust/trans/fuel pressure) and you will know what is going on before it goes bad.

I had a similar problem...

I had a Superchips on my 2002. Here's my story.

Got the truck, pure stock, no gauges.

Towed RV trailer home with the truck right after I got it. All was well except it ran a bit hot. I found (after reading here) my puke bottle was coating rad with oil. R+R rad, all clean, no heat issues now. Added a Superchips programmer, all was well, now more power.

Got gauges and a low FP light. As soon as light installed, it's on all the time (shows 4 psi @ idle, 2 psi when throttle input). Don't know how long it ran that way. Got a new Lp under warranty, dealer converted it to the in-tank LP. Could still light low fuel pressure light when I got on it, even with new LP.

Added Scotty fuel line kit, now have great pressure, light only comes on when I hit the key. As soon as engine cranks, light goes out. Never comes on after that.

Then, when towing Rv trailer in hot weather, running A/C, Superchips on Tow safe, full gauges, I got dead pedal and the p0216 code. Have good LP pressure all the way through. Never got the p0216 code, or dead pedal even with a bad LP. Reprogrammed back to stock, and took trailer for a tow. Ran it as hard as I dare (right to the floor for until I reached illegal speeds with 9000# trailer in tow), no dead pedal, no p0216 when running stock, even when I bagged it while towing.

Take it in to the dealership, they can't find the p0216 code I saw using the SC programmer as a code scanner. I'm thinking when I reprogrammed back to stock, the code was erased. Only get the code when SC is installed, code gets erased when I reprogram back to stock = no chance of getting it fixed under warranty.

Then I read in the Hypertech ad that they used a 2002 Cummins in their "comparo test" and when they ran the SC programmer on it, they also got the p0216 code when towing heavy and accelerating. They did not get the code when running the Edge EZ of their Hypertech unit on the same truck. I sold the SC and bought an Edge EZ. We shall see if the p0216 comes back when towing with the EZ installed.

Moral of the story, if I don't get the dead pedal/p0216 code when towing with the EZ installed, the SC programmer was the cause of the code.

Thoughts?

I have just talked to an ex Dodge dearlership mech. that told me " when you reprogram back to stock it does erase the error codes that poped up while in tow safe mode". So, this makes it hard for mech to determin whats wrong.

Ya, I thought so. I'll see if my new EZ sets a code, goin pullin this weekend. If it sets a code, and I get dead pedal, I'm removing the EZ and taking it in for a new pump.
