Super 40

Guy's I was wondering whats the differance between an Hx40 and a Super 40?? Can one make a super 40 from an Hx 40 themselves? I'm looking at either building a hybrid or running an Hx40 and I'm thinking if I could get the 40 and make a super out of it this might fit the Bill??

If your going to buy one, I'd just buy the super. I could be wrong on this, its been a long time since I looked into them, but this is what I remember.

The HX40 isn't fatory balanced, the super is.

The HX40 has the standard 8 blade cmpressor wheel, the super has a redesigned high flow 7 blade compressor wheel.

The HX40 is available with a bunch of different exhaust housings WG'd and non WG'd, the super 40 had a 16cm WG'd exhaust housing which is what you want.

Someone once told me the super 40 was designed for our trucks. The balanceing is the biggest factor, it allows it to spool faster, last alot longer, and not be as prone to break shafts.

If you decide to get one, call http://www.turbosupply.net/ They have the best price for them. The part number is #4027888 and the cost was $811 last time I called.

Oh and please let me know if you do get one, a buddy of mine is thinking about one, but he wanted to know how they performed.

Hope that helps....Josh

I am running a super 40, and I am really not that happy with it. It is a little laggy but once it spools it cleans up the smoke pretty good. If I had it to do over I would have saved a little longer and went with one of the s300 variants. Just my $.002

I made a hybrid out of a HX35 using the Super 40 wheel and housing. I had the wheels balanced and drilled a 9/16" hole in the 12cm exhaust housing divider to vent all the cylinders. It cools and spools great to me but I only have my old WH1C to compare it to. Since I added the boost controller I cant make it get over 1300 deg. I got my wheel and housing from Gillett Diesel and my rebuild kit and balancing from GPopShop.
