suggestions for tire/wheel combo for 02' Ram 2500
Hello,
I have a 2002 Ram 2500 4X4.I want to install new tires and wheels, and my main goal is to really try to fill up my wheel wells. The stock tires (245's?) look tiny in contrast to those big wells,I'm trying to accomplish this without drastically changing the current overall height of the truck,so I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction, such as the possibility of changing from the 16" rims to another size, and a fuller tire profile. The reason I 'm trying not to mess with the height,is because I may be moving to a place where I have to keep it garaged, and it just barely fits now. Thanks

To fill out the wheel wells, you are gonna heve to go to a taller tire. General consesus is 285's do it the best on a stock truck. Plus they are avaliable in the load range E many of us want/need.
They will raise your truck a few inches, and work on your stock rims. BUT if you get wider rims, It will help spread them out, and slightly decrease the hight. I would probally try 9" wide rims if I were in your shoes, they are rare, but I wouldn't personally want 10" rims on a tire that narrow...
Where in Bay Area? My sister in law and her husband live in Davonwood...

.It looks like 285's are the way to go.I was reccomended 315's,but I thought they would have too tall a profile.Have you ever considered them?
displacedtexan:I'm in the S.F. Bay area of No.California, soon to be relocating to Las Vegas.
I've never heard Davonwood.
Thanks for your help.

315's on stock rims will rub when you turn the wheel full over. You can go 295's if you like BFG's. I would not go any wider on the wheels than the 8" stocks...just my opinion but tires that stick out a lot look silly......and they will throw all kinds of Stuff up on your truck!
285's..or 295's are a good all around compromise.
Displaced....285's that are rated E? Have never seen this. Have a brand name?

jnixp,
Hi. I just put on some 305 70R 16s Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial and some 8.5x 16 Mickey Thompson Classic Lock wheels and the combo is awesome! I had 245 10ply on the truck and the ride difference is HUGE! There rated for 2910 lbs (at 50 psi) per tire. I'm running them at 35psi. I don't know about mpg but the power was not noticeably affected. I wouldn't recommend the Baja Claw Radial for someone that puts alot of miles on their truck. These babies are REAL AGGRESIVE! I was at a truck/auto place yesterday and they had these things on display and the wife thought that they would look great on my truck. Now me being the good husband that I am I didn't want to disappoint...
I put some pics on my gallery but they haven't been approved yet. The fit was great! I went out on the rocks today and didn't have any problems with them hitting. Good luck!

jnixp: My mistake, they live in Hercules, on Davonwood...
rjohnson: I agree, I wouldn't want go wider than 8", but just pointing out that a wider wheel will slightly reduce the hight of the tire, I should have been a little more clear in my original post.
And on the E rated 285's here are a few links...
