Ok guys I bought my truck used about 1 1/2 years ago and cant figure out what kind of work it has done to it. It runs way better than what any stock cummins I have ever rode in and every time I try to add a box it sounds like it has way to much timing. Any ideas?
Check for connections under the hood. Boxes like the VA will plug into the harness of the VP. Others like the Edge will hook into the Data link port (triangular or a flat 3 prong connection, depending upon year). Also check the MAP sensor at the back of the head. There may be a harness hooked into it, which will be a dead giveaway. Other option would be a tuner or swaped ECM.
Checked all of that. Put a superchips programmer on and the motor was extremely noisy like too much timing. Is there any way to find out if the ecm was swapped for a catcher or a mad

I can hit about out 21 pounds and it throws a pretty good cloud of smoke. It looks like it has the factory boost elbow I just havent got around to getting a block off or an adjustable elbow.
Sounds to me like you either have a smarty tune, or more likely bigger injectors like Ph4tty said. I'll bet you either got some RV 275's or some Jammer 2's. Both smoke pretty good with stock ecm tuning pushing them. Does it cut out when the boost comes up? If not, i'd lean more towards some sort of special tune. If it does cut out a little around 20-22 psi boost, most definately just injectors.
If it quits pulling at 2700 then thats a stock ecm not a mad ecm aka the catcher/ smarty programming. It is possible it was flashed with a superchips or some other programmer in which case you could get the ecm reflashed by the dealership or a smarty owner,...... or you can just go with it and look for fueling boxes instead of timing/ fueling boxes =P
If you pulled an injector there's people on the dtr that might be able to tell you which one it is =P
