Stuck my BHAF in last night...few pics
Figured I'd throw up the pics of the new setup so some people could compare new to old on it. Sure you've all seen these before, but for someone new, eh, it's cool to see.
Installation time is less than 5 minutes. Outerwears cover is on the way. I would like to find somewhere to mount that vac gauge though that shows filter blockage.
Stock airbox:
Vac gauge way down with panel filter...GASPING for air:
Comparing the new & old:
Look at what it WAS having to breath through!!!
And now!

well my filter faces forward and I have my minder mounted in the "base" of the bhaf, not sure if you would be able to see it if you mounted it like I did, you can see mine in the underhood shot in my gallery, it hasn't moved in 10 thousand miles
Edit: looked again at your pic of the filter and its location, any way to relocate the battery to close to the firewall like the new trucks have them? that would make room for the filter up front and eliminate the bend in the snorkle hose to the filter.

if you did not already you need to protect the a/c line under the bhaf near the fire wall. just put a piece of fuel hose over it. other wise the rubbing from the bhaf will rub thru it.

I too have a 97 and really like the set-ups shown here. I've got the stock box with the K&N but would like to go with the BHAF. The thing is, would it really make a difference? Right now with my current set-up (see sig), it runs strong and throws a lot of smoke until spool-up of the turbo. Would a BHAF allow a quicker spool-up, less smoke and better miles per gallon?
I know a lot of folks have varying opinions on the BHAF and I've looked at the ScottyII but have a hard time breaking loose of that sort of cash - especially not knowing the benefits of doing so.
Dave88LX - Can you provide any specifics on your setup like where did you get the filter? Is is washable like the K&N? Did you notice improvement in performance when you converted? Cost of the conversion? If you don't want to post, PM me. Thanks

I got the filter from a local Freightliner dealership. Just check with your local truck shops. There's a sticky with a bunch of different brands and their respective part numbers. I went with Fleetguard.
Thanks for the tip on the AC line, I'll cover that up ASAP!
As for what else you need? Absolutely nothing. Fits right in there. I was talking to Forrest about the AFE, but I already had the BHAF on order, so maybe next time around I'll snag an AFE, or when I start really hopping this thing up.
