straight piped, one question

Well I got bored today so I went and bought a 36" piece of 4" tubing and ditched the banks muffler that came on the truck when i got it. I must say I love the sound now, its loud but not too loud (i used to drive a cammed amc 360 straight piped... now that was loud).

I may be paranoid but it seems that my egt's are slightly HIGHER now than with a muffler. What could be causing this? I thought that without the restriction they would be lower. Im not sure how much higher they are because i never paid too much attention to the pyrometer unless i was towing, but the numbers seem higher now. I wont be able to tell exactly how much higher, if any, until I hook the trailer up. I was just curious as to what may be causing this? The only thing I can think of is maybe a back pressure issue, but then again shouldn't the turbo provide all necessary back pressure?

thanks

Banks would tell you its because of their superior muffler design.

Honestly I don't have an answer for ya, I have always seen the opposite.

I noticed the same thing, my EGT's were about 200* higher with my muffler delete. Couldnt understand it myself so i put the muffler back in.

yea im no fan of banks but apparently the previous owner was, it came with the exhaust, chip, gauges, intake, and some other stuff.
Ive been slowly removing it all. I plan on leaving the intake thing but the exhaust, chip, gauges (replaced with autometers) are all gone.

Mine isnt quite that much higher than what it was before. It makes no sense to me how it can be higher. The temps are definitely still fine- I dont see anything higher than about 950-1000 at full throttle empty, just need to hook it up to a trailer and see how it really does.

I think it's what you said about not watching enough before. Stop watching your guage so much and you won't notice any difference.HAHA
