Should I mod my waste gate to give more boost? I see 20 -25lbs normally at wot. I want to add more injector (F1's1.6's or maybe even 4's)so I was thinking of adding the Snow water/meth system to help cool the mix. Wouldn't it be a good idea to add a bit more boost to help out.I would rather not buy a new turbo just yet.

I don't know much about your year but more boost is always good, provided that you give it more fuel.

 

Just add a restrictive boost elbow.
One should have come with your Edge EZ.

 

I did. Is that all I can do? Should I mod the waste gate?

Sounds like your boost is a little low.
I would look for boost leak.

 

obviously a different truck but I saw 32 psi WOT with an EZ.... look for a boost leak somewhere.

 

Wrong. Lots of cases of lower boost making more power. Especially once your beyond the turbo's efficiency range.

Boost is a necessary evil. High boost just indicates a poor flowing cylinder head (which we have) and a tiny cam (which we have).

How much boost do you need? Enough. Just... enough. No more, no less.

I plugged my turbo wastegate tube with a 1/8" pipe plug while running a Catcher only. Max boost was 32 at WOT. A safe range for the HX35. Your EZ should see about the same. Just plug it for now. When you add anything else you will need to limit things with an elbow or manual boost control fitting.

You might want to try a turbo master, it's adjustable. I only see 20-25 also. I don't think any more would be beneficial, with the present mods cause stock is 18-20. I'm not an expert just giving my opinion.

 

I don't agree with Hohn's statement of "high boost just indicates a poor flowing cylinder head which we have" , and he is not anywhere close to being out of his turbo's efficiency range where he is at now at roughly 22-25psi(stock setting is about 21). 24v heads do flow a lot more air than a 12v.

He obviously has a boost leak somewhere, or wastegate is stuck/sticking, or needs to install boost fooler, and needs to adjust/modify his turbo(he should have an HX-35), or just block it off completely to raise your boost. With rv275's and Edge E-Z you should have more boost than what you are getting to keep egt's down, and to burn the extra fuel you now have in cylinder more efficiently, which results in more power and cleaner combustion from the same amount of fuel as when compared to lower boost. If you have lots of black smoke you are not burning all the fuel efficiently, you need more boost.

So if you add more fuel but don't add any more boost(especially at stock boost levels), you will run into the situation exactly where you are now. Look for the problem, and modify as suggested above, you will enjoy driving the truck a lot more afterwards.

 

so is the boost elbow that came with the EZ non-adjustable? the one I bought has a little allen head set screw that can be used to raise/lower max boost.

 

Ya know I never checked to see if there was a way to adust the elbow... I'll check it out and report back.

Well the elbow is not adjustable. I put a 1/8 pipe plug in the turbo and took it out for a run. It did make a bit more boost 30 psi. I may have been able to get a bit more but I was already going 100 mph and it was struggling to make 30psi so I don't think it would have made much more. I need to get a couple of fittings so I can test it for leaks with shop air. One thing I don't see much smoke from the truck just a very little hase. So what do you guys think?
