Still no 600hp

Did four pulls on a 248c tonight. Best uncorrected was 598.8hp others were in the high 580s. Tried removing the air filter to get that other hp but that actually lowered hp to 587. Realized that I have a big exhaust leak somewhere near my external wastegate. Never noticed it with the hood shut but with it open I am blowing a huge amount of soot right on my airfilter. Max boost on the dyno was 58 psi and 1450 egt. Pulled26 psi off the bottom turbo. A good note was at full fuel my FASS fuel press never dropped below 15. My torque was actually higher on level 8 [ non competition] than on level 9 [competition]. Tim

I cant get anywhere either. I dynoed a few runs today after an injector change.

627 corrrected, 646 uncorrected raw. We had some high air density here today.

I need more air and Tim needs more fuel.

This single turbo stuff aint easy.

I crammed in some extra timing tonight and have yet to test drive it. I wanted to go to Houston and play a bit with my truck, but 646 aint gonna cut it. Oh well.....back to the turbo catalog

BTW, good numbers Tim!!!!!!!!

Don~

PS I forgot to say how the fire department got called out here tonight for the smoke rolling out the bay doors. The fireman were ****** when they discovered it was just my truck.

3 ladder trucks, an ambulance, 6 or more police cars...all for me

Don, did you finally install some edms? I was in a almost closed ricer dyno booth had to wait 15 minutes before the next run due to the smoke. Time it was all said and done we looked like coal miners. And I do need more fuel plus fix the exhaust leak Im sure it is costing me some power. Tim

I did finally install some EDM's. The marine 370's are gone

They idle sooo smooth and much more quietly. I just test drove and filled the tank with fuel. WOW!! the timing I added is way cool. Ummm, I must have picked up some power. The dyno will tell, but I am not going to dyno in Houston tomorrow. I came home and checked the oil and found a fuel leak I dont want to tear into tonight before I drive to Houston.

Oh well.....I ran out of time again.

Tim those are some great dyno numbers with the Mach 5's... just round up.. your at 600hp . You get the shafts replaced on the trans yet? Looks like your not quiting till you hit 600hp... whatever happened to just wanting 500? Looks like I'm gonna make it to the Houston dyno day in the morning... hopefully I'll put down more than last time... I think cleaning my clogged air filter might net some hp.

Horace good luck be sure and post your results. Yes 600+ is the goal right now, just trying to stay close to you. I got the shafts in and all is well in the tranny dept. I am gonna be testing some new tranny parts soon though. Wish you lived closer so I could see the drivability of the mach 6s. I have run the 4s and 5s might as well do the 6s. Anybody know if the same correction factor that is used with high winding gassers applies to turbo diesels? Tim

I've been told to throw the correction factor out the window along with the magnetic fuel line magnitizers and tornado air intake devices.

I believe boosted engines negate the correction factors. (high altitude may be different?) Last dyno showed 587.51HP corrected and 603.96HP uncorrected. Needless to say, I tossed the corrected results in favor of the higher numbers.

brandon.

Yea Tim, corrected numbers seem to artificialy throw hp numbers either up or down on diesels depending on the temperature/humidity outside. I believe that the uncorrected numbers are the more accurate numbers. Only time I believe the corrected numbers are more accurate is when someone is dynoing at a high altitude such as Denver.

Well I just went for another test run on the highway this time around and blew the end of an injection line right off the tube

Not good. I think these poor lines have been removed and re-installed so many times they finally stressed to the point of failure.

I bet I pumped 5 gallons of diesel under the hood and all over the road trying to limp it home. And who said this was easy

LOL!!

Looks like Im out for tomorrows fun now for certain. The wife needs a car so IM stuck like chuck at home.

Think I got the exhaust leak fixed. Pulled my 3b off and installed a new flange gasket also a new 5" band clamp. Seems to fix most all of it. I can still hear a small leak if I block off the tail pipe but nowhere near like it was. Boost is up about 6 lbs and egts are down so it will be off to the dyno again soon. Big thanks to Stamey for giving me a hand pulling the turbos. Tim
