Stereo decisions?

I just bought an Alpine high output cd player, Alpine XM radio tuner, Alpine 6x9's, Alpine 5 1/4's for my truck.
I have decided on a JL Audio 250/1 amp to drive the subs.
What would you guys recommend for subs?
I'm looking at the MTX Thunderform box, JL Audio stealth box (the one that replaces your center seat), and the JL Stealth that goes under the rear seat.
Anyone have any experience with any of them?

Thanks fellas

Scott,
I have the MTX box and 2-10" subs that fit under the rear seat. Its the second MTX box Ive had, the other was in my Dakota. Very please with thier sound and performance. With a 250 watt amp, they'll hammer pretty good. I cant speak about the others, only what Ive tried.

Good Choices...... but step up a notch to the 500/1 amp from JLAudio and then go with W3v2d4's for subs and you will be powered right.

You can get box's on ebay for 120.00 all day long.

With a 250/1 amp you will only be able to power JL Audio w0's

There is a HUGE difference between the w3's and the w0's. Of course w7's are the bomb but you will need ALOT more power and box (airspace)for those.

My 04 has all JLAudio stuff going in on monday...

2- 10" W3's
500/1 amp
XR653 3 way components for the front doors kick panel and dash
XR650 2 way components for the rear doors
450/4 Big Block amp (2x125 and 2x75)

I got all of this stuff from the internet and also went ahead and ordered a box, surprisingly enough the box is really nice quality and I was pleased when I got it.

Enjoy your making good choices...

James

personally I'd go with the center seat sub ............. it's got a 12w3v2 in it and a 500/1 would pound it hard ...........a 250/1 would be ok also

Im running 2 JL W3's from a 800/2 Rockford Fostgate amp. I had the W0's, and the W3's are the DEFINATE way to go. Now you said that you were going to use a 250/1 amp to drive the subs? If you have more than 1 sub, why go w/ the 1 channel amp? Unless you are going to bridge it, I would suggest atleast a 2 channel amp, around 400 or so watts.

I was using a JL stealth box that goes under the rear seat... was ok...but then swithced to a downfire box...difference is night and day...Personally, I'd never go back to anything other than a downfire box.

Just my $.02

Thanks for the info guys

JCL- What box are you talking about that can be had on ebay?

I am thinking the Mtx Tform box and maybe fill it with the JL's? Or are the magnets bigger and they won't fit?
I haven't priced the box empty yet- I'll check w/ my stereo shop tomorrow.

Can you guys save me a bit of work, going to upgrade the factory AM/FM/Cass box that came in the truck with something a bit better, nothing too fancy (just want to play MP3 CDR's) with a some *better* speakers. What size are the actualy stock speakers in the doors and rear seat area? Again not doing anything fancy so i don't want to be making custom mounts and cutting and stuff, just replace the factory stuff with better but the same size. I just don't feel like taking everything apart just to see what size they are to put it back together then rip apart again later to install...

I guess the upgrade is the Infinity system (the CFO's Jeep has that factory system in it) with the amp under the seat and such, that's NOT what I have.

stock sizes in your 01 are 6x9's front doors and 6.5's rear doors

watch the 6x9's you buy arn't too deep as there's not a lot of depth available

go to www.crutchfield.com and fill in the what fits my vehicle part .........it'll tell you what stuff fits

I don't know about that lot of depth thing. I put in a set of Polk Momo 6.5 components in the front doors without a problem. The magnets on those are the same if not bigger than a set of 6x9 3 ways.

a lot of the higher end 6x9's are over 3 inches deep ........no 6.5 compenent set comes close to that deep

so if you are going comps then don't worry about depth

I tried a couple sets of 6x9's were the magnets would hit the window track top line JL's was one set and I believe the infity kappa's were the other

America Audio in CA.

I bought all my JL stuff from this guy and he was excellent to deal with. Everything came as expected in real good shape. I found that almost everything was about 100.00+ cheaper PER ITEM than I could buy it for in the local shops. No offense retailers but at 100.00 per item I saved a bundle on my purchase.

This is this guys avenue for selling (ebay) and I was not disapointed.

Again I got the XR653cs, XR 650csi, 500/1, 450/4, and the 10w3v2d4 subs from him.

Hopefully you will have the same good things to say about this guy too!
