Well guys, the straight piped stacks were tooooo much!!!! So I a got a 8'in Donaldson resonator and all I can say is
! The stacks are more enjoyable! My truck has always been loud, louder then other 2nd gens that I've compared it too. Some of you have heard my truck and can verify. This little Donaldson got rid of the drone and the extra in cab noise. This truck sounds SWEET now! Instead of a scattered barf out of the stacks, it's now a beautiful deep tone with whistle! I'm very pleased!

I found at a certain RPM there is a ear piercing drone that instantly causes me a headache when the windows are down. I can get you the Donaldson # if your interested Tyler.

What did the resonator run? As bad as I hate to admit it I need to do something before I go deaf, around town ain't that bad, but whew interstate driving is unbearable. I've ran straits on it for 3 years now and its finally startin to get to me.

i put a small aero turbine in mine. after i went to moab and back from massachusetts with strait pipe. a 30ft goose neck and 2 rock buggies on it was anoying no tone. my ears were ringing for 2 weeks. now it has deep tone but still loud. especially cause i have a reg cab.
I hauled my truck from Virginia to Indiana with my sons truck, pic below, and I thought I would go crazy. That thing was insanely loud.

Here is the Donaldson part #M090362, 4in resonator, it cost $65.00 + tax at the truck shop, free shipping.

Is the resonator for 4" I.D. exhaust??
Does it fit inside the stacks, or cut-in-the-exhaust like a muffler??
I have two 4" stacks, full length, from under rocker-panels to a couple feet above the cab.
Will I need two of the resonators??
When I had the Navistar/International, my truck was loud, but sounded awesome.
Now, with the 6BT Cummins, the stacks roar deafeningly; and, at times, it sounds exactly like the drone of a 12-cylinder Allison on a fighter plane.
Thanks.

I had the truck straight piped with stacks for about a week, It was far too loud, I put on an 18" muffler and now it sounds great. Just enough to take the edge off but still keep that deep sound. My only complaint is that with the straight pipe I could hear the turbo wind down as I walked away from the truck. It sounded like a jet engine. Now I can hardly hear it.
So this piece is a resonator, not a muffler (glass pack)? I've been debating about putting a muffler on mine too (the rattle in the back window is starting to drive me crazy), but if a resonator will quiet it down, I might go that route. On a related note, do any of you guys run any sort of mufflers in your stacks? Need to decide which way to go. Thanks!

My 4" exhaust that I got from Warpspeed last summer came with a muffler that I didn't use, but now after reading this, I'm glad I saved it. I'll probably just put that on right away when I go to stacks. Only thing I'm not sure of is which direction to put it. It's a straight through design, but has little triangular shaped divots sticking up on the inside. Looks like one way would "catch" more exhaust than the other way. The one thing I wouldn't want to do is cause any restriction though....just calm the loudness to the stacks a little.

Tye,
The stacks go on this weekend without a muffler..but I do have that second turbo that will cut the sound..
If you are going the the Doolittle party on the 18th..you can give it a listen..
