Ok, the second day i heard that im gonna get popped for my stacks, Saying its a 50,000 fine if i dont have a Cat on there and they'll repo my truck. Does any one know if there legal in PA and i never thought you needed a Cat on a diesel i thought just an effective noise supressing device or a muffler. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

UHHHH, I don't think it's that harsh of a penalty. Not to mention that your year truck didn't come with a cat from the factory thus your not required by law to have one on there. Do a search on here for stack laws. It's some very interesting reading.

Nope. 98.5-04 doesn't have a cat. They have a cat looking thing called a resonator, but no cat. The 12v's (98.4 and earlier) do have cats and the 04.5+'s have cats. But not your 01.

haha its a federal offense to modify the factory exhaust in any way whatsoever (kinda silly considering all the companies that make a living modifying exhausts huh) but unless ur vehicle came with a cat from the factory then you're ok...

if I was u i would probably go back to the original exhaust and be low key for a while....they can always find a law to get u on and make u pay some money

50,000 K for taking off the Cat are you kidding me, that is like the old tear the mattress tag off and your going to jail BS. It is called a fix it ticket in most cases you have to put one on go down to the police station have a fat cop roll around under your truck and make sure you put one on, and your good. And that is only if you get pulled over and they check.

It didn't come with one I wouldn't worry about it, but like was said earlier
if they can't get you for that they will find something else to harass you
with.

yeah 24v isb never used a cat,odd that the 12v does though.Ive got both trucks ,and there was definately no cat on my 24v.Laws are probably a little different in the states from up here but from what I understand, the exhaust must exit above or behind the cab and that is it,except for the noise bylaw. If they pop you for excessive noise then they give you what we call a notice and order. It is basically a fixit ticket. It is a joke anyway,I once got one for no front plate, missing headlight and bald tires on my winter car.i simply went down to the community police station,no officers were there, the volounteer lady was .She took one look and signed it off .She just glanced at the front plate and that was it.i'm really not too worried about my stacks,as if i drive normally they arent even that loud,If I were worried about it i would put a false muffler in it just to have the appearance of a muffler system. Most people think the stacks are fake anyway until you hammer on it
