Sputter from 3300 - 4000 RPM

got a problem here:

Our truck has a bad missing problem when in gear pulling from 3300 RPM to 4000 rpm. It sputters and smokes kinda gray/white. And i can definitly feel it not pulling as hard as it does from 2000 to 3000

MODS: 215 pump, plate, rack travel mod, 435's injectors, HTB2 64/14 turbo, AFE mega cannon

Do you have a fuel pressure gage on the filter housing? Something you can read at WOT under these conditions?

i checked the overflow valve, advanced timing a bit more. tightened the 4k GSK a turn tighter on each side.

And no, dont have a FP gauge, i really thought about it being a fp issue,
Is the stock liftpump good enough for the fuel im putting out? ive heard gunracer1 has 0 psi at wot at 500 hp.

ok but i KNOW i need a needle valve, for the fp gauge, but DONT KNOW what it is. ok, i dont wanna order anything from usa for this, so can someone explain me what a needle valve is and how it works? so i can get it here in my hometown

thanks a lot!

(Truck has never a starting issue, due to lift pump problems)

did you replace the valve springs with the 60# HD springs? could this be valve float?

sounds like fuel pressure to me. I have my overflow shimmed to make about 30 psi at idle. today however it started stuttering at about 3800. I really need a fuel system. sounds like you do as well. the stock lift pump may be bullet proof, but it cant feed an 215 with big injectors as many of us on here are now finding out.

hmmmm yeah i put in some COMP valve springs from NEW ERA.

*BUT* they where a tad shorter then the stock valve springs, so i had to put two washer underneath them, they where includedm but they where a lot stifer (if thats an english word) a lot harder.
the springs i put in on another motor, where a lot higher.

wana12v: I only stretched the spring on the Over flow valve.
i had stretched it before even more, then the lift pump started ticking

the weird thing is, another guy put in 435's also, and his works so great! mine has "some" more rack travel then his though!

I hooked up a fp gauge today, tested. Changed fuel filter, cleaned prefilter. tested again, results:

Idle, easy driving: 37 psi (overflow valve spring stretched)
WOT...
3000 RPM: 10 psi
over 3000 RPM: 0 psi

are the 435's injector holes too big, do i have to much rack travel for the stock lift pump?
or is my lift pump bad?

i noticed some defueling before i put in the injectors, and the rack travel mod

TEXTBOOK fuel starvation. I had the same problem, here's what I did:

Change fuel filter (duh!)
Clean prefilter screen
Drop tank, clean/replace screen at bottom of pickup. (I replaced mine with metal windowscreen, as the original was both too fine in my opinion and unavailable separately)

My in-tank screen was almost completely clogged at 260k. Yours may well be too.

your simply moving more fuel than your pump can keep up with. mine is doing the same thing. 5@.014 injectors and a tweaked 215 will move alot of fuel dont waste your time dropping your tank to clean the pickup, your gonna have to do a fuel system. (which will require dropping your tank so wait till your ready to upgrade)

Im going with an aeromotive a100 with 1/2 inch feed line, fleetguard filter/ seperator on the frame rail, then straight to the pump. getting rid of all my factory filters lines ect. putting a bigger stand pipe in the tank, getting rid of my overflow and using an aeromotive regulator and running 50-60 psi. seen several truck with this setup that love it, and everyone Ive talked to loves the a1000's

Your lift pump is not bad. I have the same deal on my truck. I changed myLP ( I got it for free) and ther was no change in FP. My truck surges bad in the upper RPMs and doesnt pull very good past 3 grand. Sure enough I can drop the FP gauge to 0psi in 1st gear. I have a fresh fuel filter and I decided to drop the tank just to double check everything and it was fine. The screen had like 3 small fragments in it. I also replaced the rubber lines while I was down there. FP still drops but thats ok because while the tank was out I plumbed it for another fuel setup and now I am just waiting on some cash...

Wana, I am going to run somewhat of a similar setup although I am going to try and keep my stock LP for reliability. Where do you get your filter/seporator housing? I am still looking for a good deal on an a1000....

what does an aeromotive "a1000" cost?
On edit: i see around $300

i read somewhere the aeromotive is not very reliable, and not very durable, might have been another number. the a1000 looks like a good pump!

any feedback, from people who use one would be great!

Ive got three friends who run this setup on their daily drivers.
2 24v's set at 30 psi an twin'd 12v and theyve never had anytrouble out of them.
This is also the setup Brian Block runs on the yellow truck (627hp ve powerred 1st gen) and hes were I got the idea. On a 12v remove your over flow and put the aeromotive regulator in its place allow you to adjust fuel pressure. Im going to run between 50 and 60 psi.

the a1000 seems to be a better pump than the fass uses, and Ive have heard off fass failing/ causeing hard starts so they are not perfect either. plus id like the ability to run more than 45psi and use 1/2 inch line.

i bought a frame mounted pump for a ford 7.3' i figured it was the most reliable i could come up with. i have a mech. friend that says they will do 100 psi. and are very reliable. i plumbed in another pick up, then a new water/seperator. but this is as far as i have got. may be this weekend i can get the rest done.
here is the one like the one that i bought.
