Speakers

I have a 2001 quad cab with the infinity 6 speaker sound system. I want to know if anyone has changed their rear speakers( The ones in the doors). When I use the little joy stick to the rear speakers what I get is not very nice. I want to keep the sound system( radio unit) the same but was wondering if there is anything I can do to better the rear sound.

I have completely replaced the entire Infinity "waste of $700" system. The easiest things to replace on the entire system are the rear speakers. they are 6 1/2 inch size. There are no depth limits to the rears. The door panels are somewhat difficult to pop loose just like the front doors. After that, just replace them with any good aftermarket speakers. Crutchfield.com will have any adapter wiring you need, a good price, and help after the sale.

This is assuming the problem is in the speakers themselves and not the complicated amp/wiring that powers the rears. If the rears sound bad but do make sound, then it's the speakers and can easily be fixed with replacement.

I think they are 5 1/4's in the rear. My 2001 quad cab is. You might get a 6.5 in there if you want though.

My factory ones were 6.5" in the rear. I put a set of pioneer 2 ways in mine.

dont mean to hijack or anything but in my regular cab, what size are the speakers in the doors and under the seatbelts in the rear? and does the stock cd player have a jack for a amp?

The front door speakers are 6x9, the rears should be 6.5, and your factory head unit does not have a jack for an amp.

2nd person not to intend to Hi-jack, but..

What happens when your rears stop working all together? The fronts actaully don't sound that bad. I did a real detailed cleaning of my truck a few months back, when I got in the next day I turned on the radio and notice that (while wiping) I had adjusted the stupid balance thingy.

Well, I evened it out, then moved it all the way to the back, NO NOISE?
I was originally hoping that I had maybe disconnected something while vaccuming or something? Anyone ever heard of this?

Maybe I am thinking of the quad cab that the door does not open like a 96. I know one of them is a 5.25. I could be wrong as always.

I don't know what size is in there but thanks for the replies. I don't want to let everybody on the outside to hear me and I don't want to get into a custom job but I do like good quality music. I got the truck a year ago and the other day I couldn't believe the sound coming from the back. My little 4 year old has fast fingers and wanted to know what the joy stick does, before I could tell him he moved it. That was the first time it was adjusted.
