Spearco Intercooler Installed!

Got my new SPEARCO Intercooler installed.

This thing ROCKS!

Turbo Spoolup is VERY much improved, I can't believe how much difference it made. I'd say cruising temperature is 100-150 degrees cooler.
It takes a LOT longer to hit 1600 on a WOT run from a dead stop.

This thing darn near spools as good as stock, I am very surprisesd. It flat out gets up and GOES! Black smoke is decreased from a dead stop and the charger just flat out SPOOLS. If I can get a boost gauge video I'll post it up.

All around throttle response and acceleration is more crisp, and the power gain is awesome. Truck is much more enjoyable to drive in town with the big charger.

Here is a video I shot: (Closed course professional driver)

Yes, my truck is dirty.. Too busy working on it getting ready for Houston to CLEAN it..

All in all WELL worth the money, great upgrade!!

Some questions- are the connectors of a smaller diameter than stock? It looks like that on the pics.
If yes did you adapt the whole pipes or use an adapter?
The new IC looks a bit thicker than the stocker, was there a problem installing the AC cooler and the tranny cooler with the new IC?

TIA

Sigh
Drove about 150 miles with solid bump stops on, with 1 inch of travel.. Probably knocked something loose in the tank. Makes me happy.

I have my AFC adjust so that I can MASH it off the line and it still lights very nicely.
It is VERY important that you properly adjust the star wheel with these big chargers.
You can have them spool a LOT better if you tighten them up a bit.

Some questions- are the connectors of a smaller diameter than stock? It looks like that on the pics. Yes, the connectors are smaller, but don't offer the restriction of the stockers "square" inlet.

If yes did you adapt the whole pipes or use an adapter? The IC kit includes new IC to turbo & IC to intake manifold pipes. The connections at the intercooler are STRAIGHT connections with no reducing.

The new IC looks a bit thicker than the stocker, was there a problem installing the AC cooler and the tranny cooler with the new IC?

Just some slight tweaking with the lines got everything lined up nicely.

Cool !

FYI, make sure it's that clean after you get here and B4 you make any runs - as you know, that dirt\mud coating severely limits radiating efficiency in an air-over heat-exchanger, not to mention restricting air flow-thru.

Just a friendly heads-up from a prospective spectator.....................

The dirt-mud coating is on the original IC.. which is now in storage. The new IC is clean as ever.

nice

Thanks for the input about temp and boost. Can you post where you got it from? I need to see if they make one for a 3rd. gen truck? I know that BD, and Banks make one, however, looking for one that is tested to 100psi.

They do make them for the 3rd gen trucks.

Spearco intercoolers are tested to 200PSI.

I'm supprised that it take so long to hit 100mph. I just found a rock hole in my intercooler to day. I was doing the leak air compressor test and found that my intake manifold plate leaks. I had to double clamp my intercooler hoses. The cooler fin area looks like its not quite as wide as the stock intercooler.
