Spanked by a Ford Explorer

There is a 10% grade near my home and it goes for about 1.5 miles. Today a Ford Explorer came up along side and hit the go pedal. All I could do was watch his tail lights go up the hill as I couldn't catch him. Seems a shame that I have put all that money into making this truck into a powerful machine and come to find out that a Ford Explorer V-8 gasser spanked me up the hill. :'( I'm sure I out weigh him but ??? I thought my CTD ran pretty good until now.

How much more do I have to spend to get a truck that's faster than a stock Ford Explorer. What's all this I hear about smokin' Mustangs and Corvettes?

Is there something wrong with the configuration in my signature?

Re:Spanked by a Ford Explorer

that does sound kinda odd, especially since HO's generally respond really well to injector upgrades

Something is definately wrong with your truck. I have a 2001 h.o. 6 sp. and my company vehicle is a explorer. Even stock my truck will waste it.

Why do you assume it was a "stock Ford Explorer"?

Re:Spanked by a Ford Explorer

I love making people think "I just got beat by a diesel"
I was traveling down the bypass around my town on the way to work yesterday. Thanksgiving day keep in mind. :

Well I moved over and went to pass this Phurd Ranger Ext. Cab 4x4-maybe...newer model. Well right about the I get even with him he decide's he's not gonna let me pass and get's on it a little.....then I got on it a little in hopes he'd let up........he didn't :P .....so I preceded to jump ahead of him with moderate use of my right foot and get over in front of him to throughly hand him his rear end. Once in front I gave him a nice puff of smoke to roll over his truck too

Oh well some people can be idiots even on a holiday!

Sorry for rant'n!

Now that would depend on the Explorer. It should be a 4.0 and that is a good engine. I have had a '94 ranger 4.0 since new and it will move pretty good. It is manual and has a little air mods. Of course the Explorer is heavier. Also the 4wd mentioned would be a lot heavier.

Re:Spanked by a Ford Explorer

Hmmmm the word sleeper comes to mind but my almost stock ctd blew away a furd tridon v10 daully for the fun of it ,both running empty up a mountian pass came up behind him , he floored it ,,so did we in high gear no downshift @ 100km[62 mph], he pulled 100yrds ahead till we made boost passed him at 120 km [75] at 160 kms [100] he was 300 yrds behind and we had to hit the exhaust brake to slow for corner @ top of hill ......`now that being said i had a small block 99'gmc with 4:11s and some stuff : that if hit hard at 30mph would lite the tires are go nuts but would only haul 25% of my ctd

Uh. [glow=green,5,300]STICKERS!!! [/glow] DUH!! You need a big ol' Japanese character smeared across yer hood, man!

Seriously though... how much boost were you making? Have you checked to make sure the boots aren't leaking? When the guages were installed, my dad's 95 was only making 6PSI until the intercooler boots were tightened. Those were tightened and now it's somewhere around 20.

brandon.

Re:Spanked by a Ford Explorer

Theres lots of sleepers running around out there...the explorer likely had the V-8. Hell, it could have had a supercharger. Who really knows?? If it was stock, you should have beat him easily...

Remember the guys that used to drive around in a big old 4 door Chevy car, with a 427 big block under the hood?? Theres many S-10s running around with suped up 350's...

Re:Spanked by a Ford Explorer

my first car was a Dodge Omni...slow right? well, it was a GLH Turbo that I modified...only hint was it had daytona rims and tires and very subtle ground effects (which u could barely notice ) this was back in the late 80's...many a montecarlo ss and iroc-z were scratching their head when the light turned green....u never know what the guy next to u has and never under estimate...look what we do to our diesel work trucks, their is a couple of people in my neighborhood scratching their heads too now..(until i blow up my tranny ;D)
