Re:South Bend Clutch

When doing the clutch on my truck, we found a problem and it was the inadequate trans jack for the trans and transfer case. After grumbling and listening to all the possible solutions to put the trans back in place, I got under the trans and transfer case, stood up with the weight on my shoulder and walked it into place...just a few steps. Truck was on a hoist of course.

Will be doing another [censored] clutch from what Rod tells me, maybe Peter will come help this time.

Re:South Bend Clutch

Got Smoke when are you putting the clutch in? I'm down that way. Plus I just put mine in 2 weeks ago. I hate that (censored) cross member though. Also if you want the stacks we can cruise up that way one weekend. I'm always looking for an excuse to come home and see CH HG and all my buddies. Opie and Justin and I did my stacks in my first gen. I loved them and I'm sure CH will love his.

oldred97:
Here's a tip for the cross member. Simply push the left side forward and up and tilt the right side down and out. You don't ever need a spreader. Just do not push the member backwards.

I showed this tip to Will the last time I ws at BMD.
george

I can give you directions if you'd be willing to come help. I'll provide lunch/dinner.

The stacks are questionable right now. It all depends on my tax return. If I get enough I'm getting a Pac Brake and stacks will have to wait till my b-day in July, but if my check isn't big enough to handle the Pac then I'll be heading for KY in the next month or so one weekend! I'll make sure and let you know when I hate driving up there by myself. [undecided]

Re:South Bend Clutch

GOT SMOKE ;
I've put several clutches in these trucks ( 3 in mine, but thats a long story ) and they are one of the easiest I,ve ever put in.
I,ve found that the NV4500 and transfer case will ballance on a floor jack perfectly. ( a good jack not a Wally World special )
If you put the jack under the tranny just in front of the T case it will work without a tranny jack. As a matter of fact I would rather do it that way unless it was on a lift.
Then a tall tranny jack would be great.
Good Luck !!

: Eddie : 8)

PS: If you were close to me I might be able to help you out.

Re:South Bend Clutch

I sure wish I had this kind of help when I put my centerforce clutch in last year. I had a hell of a time doing it by myself. :'(
DM01

Re:South Bend Clutch

The local Cummins mechanic of choice in northern Utah, Clay Carrigan, Carrigan Motors Dodge, in Morgan, installs a 6 speed 4x4 clutch in 2 hours flat.
