Some 24v head stud questions

I am thinking about putting some aftermarket head studs on my truck for some added security. Do you guys think that this would be a good idea? Or whould it be pointless without doing some work to the head? Another question is does the head have to be removed to install new studs only? What size stud should be used? Thanks for your time and help

The studs will improve integrity. I would go with the ARP 12mm studs. You can change them out without removing the head. Tapping the block holes is also recommended, just use a 12 X 1.75 bottuming tap and then suck the shavings out with a shopvac and a tube. Use LOTS of the ARP assembly lube and torque the studs down to 120#.

Yes we stock them... The studs are not too difficult of a job. The rocker arm assemblies will need to be removed and the valve lash checked/set. I would plan on 2-3 hours if you do not tap the holes in the block and 5-6 hours if you do.

Tapping the holes is recommended.... This ensures that you get a good and even bite on the stud. The OEM headbolts do not go as far down in the block as the studs. The clearance problems people have are when they put the longer studs that should go on the outside towards the exhaust in the wrong holes. The studs come with instructions plus we would be happy to answer any install questions you may have.
