smoke questions

well first of all im thinking of purchising a 2000 24 valve cummins quad cab
4wd automatic.

ok please forgive me an correct me if im wrong.

now i was told like on 96s an 97s someone could turn the fuel pump up manuly an make it blow black smoke an stuff.

well i was told they all went eletronic in last part of 98. so im wondering if i do decide to purhcase this do i got to get a tuner. or spend some money to turn up the pump or whats involved on a 2000 dodge 24 valve cummins ??

The 24v is going to require electronics to get some more power out of it. The 12v (ended midyear of 98) is the kind you can play with the pump to get more power. You can put injectors in both, but to get the most out of the 24v, you're gonna need more electronics. If you're still looking and wanting to crank it up, the 12v is a very good choice. That said, the 24v is still a very good engine. Just has its flaws, like everything. Do a search on lift pump and injection pump failures.

If i were you id hunt for 12 valve. Dont have to worry about injection pump failures and you can just play with the p-pump to get more power and dont have to spend $. However, to have the in cab adjustbility of the electronic programmers in the 24v is nice

i prefer the 24v myself. (which a lot of people find weird) stick a chip exhaust, intake and upgrade the tranny and you have a hell of a nice truck.
