Smarty + VB + Smart Lock
Didn't get my truck back from the tranny shop today as hoped. Not so sure the Higher pressure of the VB and the Banks "Smart Lock" for the EB are going to play well together. The line pressure is way higher than expected. It works fine if you ease into it but if you romp on it it redlines real quick and won't shift until just past redline if at all. Anyone else have this issue?? Also I have heard about the "SMARTY" eliminating some sort if torque management system?? Does it actually change anything to do with the tranny?? Shift points etc..?? Or is it only changing the way things work in the engine??
The torque management you refer to reduces power to save the tranny and I don't believe that was even on the 98's- so no it doesn't have anything to do with shift points. Sorry I can't help with the tranny
Actually that is exactly what I needed to know. That means it is only the "Smart Lock" and VB that are not playing nice with each other. Maybe the pressure just needs to be turned back down a tad.
remember with the higher settings of the smarty the ecm is going to full fuel before the throttle is completly at wot. This means the the engine is at wot before the throttle linkage going to the trans is. This might have something to do with it.
Just my 2 cents

Still having problems.
Smart Lock has been adjusted
Truck shifts fine from 1-2 just before redline 2-3 at about 3200rpm and 3-4 about 2700
Problem now is when you get off of it (say at an off ramp) the truck keeps defaulting to 3rd gear.
Limp mode?? Tranny guy says it is not throwing any codes and so fourth. Not sure what the heck is going on. DO I need to check for codes using my Smarty?

Personally if I were to own a tranny buisness and I made mads to a customers truck that didn't come anywhere near working correctly I would keep working on it until it was right. Late into the night and on weekends. These Edit sent me home with a busted rig for the weekend. Bring it back Monday they tell me. They can not get their code reader to communicate with the ECM. They now tell me that I need some check valve in the VB that convinces the pressure govenor that it is not putting out more presure the parameters allow for (they say it came in the 99 and newer rigs from the factory and because of the flash I need it). It will not drop to 1st so I am stuck taking off in second even if you manualy shift it. (better than third like it was) The exhaust brake didn't work great with the OD turned on before I took it in and now it doesn't do a dang thing. I am so mad. They say they can have it figured out Monday, I think if they don't they can put it back the way it started, give me my dang money back, and I will take it elsewhere.
Man this thing idles lower in D than it did before and the truck rattles and shakes a bit. Does this seem normal? I am beginning to wonder what the stall is, it may be entirely to low for what i need. I think I should have asked more questions. I told the guy I didn't tow anything but a couple loads of hay a year and maybe a couple of vehicles, then let him do his thing. Hope it isn't going to be so low that towing is a PITA.
What kind of stalls are you guys running. I understand that as bombs are added (hopefully TST PM3, injectors ,and turbo this time next year) so what would be a happy medium where I am now and where I want to be. I won't be doing and daily hauling, I do drive rather heavy footed and would love to make some kills and hit the track a couple times, I won't be doing any comp tractor pulls but my want to chain up to a buddy on occasion.

Had considered it but Banks says you need it to run their EB with the auto trucks. I will call them tomorrow and see if they think I can get by without it since I now have higher VB pressure and different TC
Ummmm, that sounds like they are selling you somthing. You can run a switch that you flip the brake on and off with instead of some fancy controller. I'd take it off and see if it solves the tranny problems and then go from there. Who built your VB if you don't mind me asking?
The Smart Lock doesn't control when the brake engages it taps into the brake CPU and adds extra line pressure for less slippage when the EB does come on. It is kind of like a part time version of the BD Posi-Loc. Like I said i will call Banks tomorrow and see if this is something I can do without now.
The VB was torn down at the shop doing the install and fitted with I think TCI components. I think TC came from someplace in Oregon and I believe it is also TCI components. I could be wrong about both of these and will make sure to ask tomorrow.

I lied. The components for both the VB and TC came from "Superior Trans Parts/Fairbanks Performance". The TC was put together here at the local shop.
The stall is about 1300-1500
Once I get this thing back I might have to have you guys walk me through the use of a lock up switch (providing they ever get it fixed)

The smartlock is what manages the TC lockup. There is also a vacuum operated ram on the throttle lever on the trans side to increase the pressure. The smartlock also manages warm-up on the newer e-brake.
I don't think the smartlock should have anything to do with an acceleration problem unless the micro-switch way out of adjustment or, more likely, faulty. The smartlock is really only going to function during decelleration and, depending on the application, warm-up.
Based on what you're stating, I'd bet a dime on a doughnut that its the VB.
Edit**unless the installation was poor, then you could have a smartlock related issue - but I doubt this would be the case assuming it was installed properly.**
