That is because your truck has a different cruise system.

98-00?? have vac powered cruise. And the newer trucks are all electronic controlled, no vac

 

I also never had a surge issue with my smarty, I did a 700 mile trip over the summer with my truck, and the smarty, and it never surged.

As far as the vp44 trucks being out i guess is a matter of opinion, I am a strong believer in new technology, and I have been in chevy and dodge cp3 pump or CR trucks and they are great.

I do agree, i am not going to spend 45000 on a truck every few years, when I bought mine for 1\3 the price with only 80,000 miles on it, on a motor that has a service interval of 500,000 miles.

 

recently got smarty for my '01. Got it from a vendor whose a smarty authorized dealer. I told them to look into high idle/3 cyl and make sure that was there, plus the cruise control issue, I wanted that checked also....I'm not a big hp hound so the 65hp or so smarty provides is good enough for me. I also aksed for the most recent upgraded unit, with speed limiter...which we set to 120mph.

took a 140 mile trip with it...felt great on SW 3 and gained several mpg, tested it on SW 9 also and really liked the way it felt on 9 (good power and pick up, gonna run this in the summer), but put it on 3 for overall daily driving with economy plus better throttle response especially for the winter months...used cruise control and it felt fine with SW 3 and stock injectors, set the CC to 65mph on the hwy. Hope it still feels the same way with mild injector upgrade, DDP 1's or M1.2's or 1.6's or something like that.

 

HAS ANYONE HEARD FROM MARCO OR BOB RECENTLY.
IS THIS SMARTY PRETTY MUCH GIVEN UP ON WITH MAJOR CHANGES?
IF SO, WILL EITHER ONE OF THEM LET US KNOW SO WE COULD QUIT HOPING FOR SOMETHING AND MOVE ON TO A DIFFERENT PRODUCT?

P.S. THEY SURE ARE GOING TO TOWN WITH THE CR'S. THEY EVEN HAVE A MINI SMARTY FOR THEM. JUST HOPE THEY DONT FORGET WHICH TRUCK(VP44) GAVE THEM THIER FAME.

 

Which program on the mads page is the beta version...i dont see it listed as "beta". Was it removed?

Yup that is the most current one.

I talked to Bob a few weeks ago and he wanted more details on the cruise surging. He talked about making a custom tune to help with it.

I did some testing for him (on different Smarty Levels) and found that my truck was surging a little bit with the stock setup as well. I can barely tell,... only by watching the boost guage actually.

I'm going to work on my APPS sensor first and then get back with Bob if the surge is still there.

It's bad enough that a few folks that drove my truck asked me what was up with the cruise.

I am a bit tired of what seems to be more or less beating around the bush with the 2nd gen Smarty. I think Bob needs to come out and explain a bit more what's going on.

The speed limiter they added is nice and all, but it doesn't even work on my truck

 

This tune is smoother. If they would elaborate on it more it would be very nice and might be able to fix the surge...
