Smarty Request

I realize this will never happen as I'm probably one of only two people who would want it, but it would be great if there was a version of the Smarty SWs that had a quiet idle (really retarded timing at idle).

When my VP was toast, sometimes when I'd start it up it would idle like a 3rd gen (and generate Inj. Timing Failure codes at the same time). It was really quiet with virually no ignition ping. I believe this was because my timing mechanism was shot and couldn't advance the timing properly.

So if there could be a set of Smarty SWs that did this at idle I could actually start and let my truck warm up in the morning while I clean off the snow, etc. As it is in my dense neighborhood I can't let it idle since the 2nd gen HO trucks are so **** loud.

In a perfect world it would only do it when the parking brake was set.

I think it is a great idea, but in the colder temperatures you would want to have your truck run with the high idle and that it turn would make the truck louder, right?? If it was warmer outside I think it would be a good feature.

Since I get to listen to my neighbors dogs barking all night...the louder my truck idles in the morning, all the better!

The sound of the truck is one of it's best features.

I agree Ram. I dont understand when people buy a cummins then complain about the noise. That makes the truck that much better in my opinion. If you want something quit, buy a gasser.

If I dont get at least one person looking out their window to see what all the racket is, Im doing something wrong. LOL Ive had my share of neighbors with broken mufflers, boom box stereos, etc. So I don't think Im that much of a nuisance with my truck. Now, my Harley with straight headers? That's another story. For that reason I dont take the bike to work in the morning.

These trucks are obnoxiously noisy to 99% of the people on the planet. Just because I'm not one of them doesn't mean I don't respect their sensibilities. They don't have the luxury of diminished hearing capacity that those of us who drive these trucks enjoy

I guess you could wrap the engine in a sound absorbing blanket.

After running some bio in my truck (20%), it made it significantly quieter. Not nearly as much pump noise.

I love the rattle also I leave for work about a 1/2 hour before my wife has to get up for work and i've heard more whining than my turbo makes about waking her up before her alarm goes off and how the garage smells like diesel when she leaves in the morning. Oh well gotta keep'em ticked off or they think they are getting the upper hand lol

A friend has a stack on his, parks it in the garage which is right under the master-bedroom (poor house layout ), he leaves for work at 6am, says it doesn't wake his wife. She must be a very heavy sleeper. My office is about 100' from the railroad tracks, used to be bothered by the trains all day, now I don't even notice them.

BTW...stacks in a drywalled garage...sure does leave a mark!

I don't worry about the noise that my truck makes since it's not as loud as the Harleys and the crotch rockets that fly up and down the road here all day and night, then throw in the tri-axles hauling gravel hitting their engine brakes as they go down a hill near my house.

Talking

maybe that will be one of the new updates that are suposed to come out for the 2nd gens,i read a post a week ago that bob said there was some new updates for the 2nd gens,i have my fingers crossed for the high idle when warm feature that people are talking about.also hoping for a agressive timing with no extra fueling for a real fuel saver, now this may be a crazy idea but cool if possible, down load the program that makes the programs for the smarty so the user can tweak his or her own program, make the parameters within a safe range so one couldnt put to much timing to do damage, guys could make thier own programs and swap info and stuff, wow what a world
