Any of ya'll with a Smarty who live where the temperature is warming up notice an increase in your smoke level? (I'm running s/w#7)

Makes perfect sense. Warmer air has less oxygen in it. Less oxygen means less efficient combustion. Less efficient combustion means more smoke. I can't wait to see how nasty my injectors really are this summer.

 

Yeah, I'm seeing quite a bit more smoke now that its getting closer to 70* here, even on SW #1 !

 

my truck would puff a little smoke when it was stock in the heat of a Kansas summer... just a function of air temperature/density.

Seriously, it's the same as getting a bigger turbo! Just learn to roll into it easily till 8-10 psi boost. On your truck .... no time at all. Not a problem... just different! Second nature, in no time.
Trickier w/ an automatic, IMHO.... unless your Big Blue, and D.G.A.S. !

it was 95 degrees about 2 days ago here in Texas!

 

Smarty's #1 will smoke more than some of the other settings because of the advanced timing. I've noticed more smoke (or rather EASIER smoke) with #1 than with #5 even.

I've been running #5 lately and find it to be my favorite overall for DDing. It will STILL make a huge cloud if I get caught trying to make big acceleration in the wrong gear.

Then I noticed the clutch getting REALLY bad REALLY quickly, and back to half power I went.

Poor people at the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry got a BAD cloud when I accidentally had to merge with fast approaching traffic and there were pedestrians on the sidewalk waiting to cross. I'm sure that one got an EPA letter or two.


Oddly enough, I've noticed worse smoke as my clutch has gotten worse. It makes sense, as the turbo won't spool with no engine load.

 

I'm now back to wondering what Phatboy and others will encounter... mid summer... with HRVP's and Smarty's? Stay tuned, I guess.

90* down there, we had a snow storm rip through here today, 3", but it didn't hang around long, but still snow in April. Truck runs good in that nice cool dense 45* air.

 

Mike, Didn't you hear.... Spring started March 23.

On a side note... that is one heck of a collection of Dodge trucks! How do you pick which one to drive today?

Actually started the 20th... and out in Western Kansas they got over a foot of snow on the "the first day of Spring."

 

It all depends on how I feel (more like how lazy I'm feeling and wether or not I want to row gears or let the auto do if for me) and if I want to confuse the people at work.

 

I'm curious to see how this turbo reacts with the hot weather. And then I'm really curious as to how it's gonna work with the 89% DTT tranny and the hot weather. And just what in the heck does D.G.A.S. stand for?
