Can anyone give me a reply to this question? I am looking to upgrade the injectors, but the sheer number of choices from F1 are confusing to say the least--not to mention the ones that are not listed on Don's website like the modified 4s for towing.

Will a HTT 71/62/13SS charger be too big with a set of Mach 4s and a Smarty? I don't want to upgrade the charger multiple times in the event I purchase a TST box in the future, but this new charger is getting awesome reviews for towing.

Thanks

I'd say a smarty and some 100-150hp injectors would be a great combination.

Contact Doug at Performance Diesel Warehouse about ordering some Mach 4's. He will get you the exact one's you need.

A 62 turbo shouldn't be to big at all for a smarty and mach 4's. You should be able to spool it real nicely and keep egt's low. I know with my 62/12 and the bd 155's and smarty I was at 110mph before I was at 1300*. Heck, even with the 200+hp dragon flows I'm running now and just the smarty I can only hit 1350 by 110mph.

I am running the ultimate towing setup....just trust me on this. I have the SS62, Smarty, Comp & I've tried multiple injector combos with this turbo. I am now running Industrial Injections Dragon Flow [4 flows]....they have 7 holes & rated at 125-150hp. I get no smoke at all without Smarty or Comp & usually run SW2 with no comp & only get a small puff if fueling hard off the line. If I turn the comp up....can blow huge clouds if someone makes me mad & I go to pass them.....lesson learned! I am running 55psi boost & @ wot I only see 1300* at 100mph. I just turned my boost up....had to wait for the new headgasket to seat. I was only running 35psi for the last 2 months & temps never got over 1400*. I tow 15k & no egt issues running SW6, 3x3. These injectors are the smoothest power & smoothest idle that I have seen. I can check a price with my supplier if you are interested, but I know they are cheaper than F1.

How much did the II Dragon Flow 4 holes affect your unloaded mileage? Will this setup be any different for my HO pump? I'm not too worried about initial cost on injectors, but I am worried about quality and poor mileage after install. So far, the Machs seem to be top notch on this board.

I don't want to do anything twice--way more expensive in the long run.

I never figured it out because my truck is usually hooked to a trailer, but I get 425-450 miles per tank. You can't go wrong with F1 injectors from what I've read, but I don't think they could possibly be better than the 4 flows....just awesome!

I know my mileage went down with the dragon flows but mine have 11 holes and are over 200hp and haze slightly at idle. I think my drop in mileage is due to a bad injection pump though. From what I've noticed injectors on these trucks don't start affecting mileage negatively until you start romping on it which at that point it goes in the toilet rapidly.

I missed this question in feb but I can answer it now =P Where it says sae 1.01 on your graph- this is the correction factor. Correction factors takes the torque the dyno reads and modifies it based on temperature, barometric pressure, and temp. So your uncorrected numbers are a few hp lower than what the printout said, but like I said you'd dyno better on #2 fuel anyhow =P

I still have the Mach 4s with my Smarty and an HX35.

My Dad drives the truck every day to work-- Smarty on #5. No problems with smoke control or EGT.

That said, there's no towing done.

Remember-- it's not much fuel you HAVE, it's how much you USE! If you have discipline with the loud pedal, there's no reason you can't run the big sticks even towing.

The turbo is what will determine how much power you can USE. The stock turbo can support 340hp or so of USEABLE power. So, if you use this much or less, you can tow anything that can be towed with 340hp or less.

My truck is probably just a tick over 400hp with 150hp sticks and a Smarty. Would I tow with it? Yes! Would I trust someone else to tow with it? Maybe, maybe not-- more likely to be not. Maybe an experienced, responsible dieselhead would be trustworthy.

My setup is a good setup for street running and fun around town. It's NOT set up for heavy towing, though it can be done.

However, all that stands between my truck and full time towing duty is a turbo. The HTT 62/14 with the bigger 71 turbine is probably the single best, most versatile turbo around for someone who wants enough power to have fun, and still have good towing manners.

This is the turbo that is best for everything from a stock truck to a 500hp truck, imo. Yes, the other line of HTT turbos have smaller pinwheels and tighter housings available. But you don't want this for towing. You want a more open turbine section with low drive pressure that still spools well enough to stay "on boost" when towing.

That's why I consider the HTT 62/14 with the bigger 71 series turbine to be the "goldilocks" turbo-- not too big, not too small, but JUUUUUUST RIIIIIGHT!

Thanks again to all that replied.

Feeling good about BOMBing my truck with all the positive feedback. I still need to order the CON OFE and install a Walbro before I order the Mach 4s.
