Smarty & High EGT
Smarty & High EGT
Hello all, I have not posted much, I use the search function all the time though!
I updated my signature so you know what I'm dealing with.
I just got a Smarty, I had an Edge box that was tweaked by Diesel Dynamics for many years but it took a dump a while back. I'm noticing higher EGT's with the Smarty. Unloaded and any good grade I can hit 1200-1250, the boost pressure seems lower too on the Smarty, maybe around 20 max. The old Edge never gave me concerns with high EGT's.
I'm running the Smarty on program 5. The sub programs on the Smarty I have not played with (I'm not sure what adjustments to make so I have just been playing with the preset programs) I notice the Smarty smokes much more also, but it is very hot here in Vegas this time of year.
I guess my question is could the lower boost pressure be causing the higher EGT's? Is the boost fooling in the Smarty all you need or are there other tricks to employ?
Thanks for any insights you might have.
Scott

Well after a little more of the search function...
It looks like a boost elbow should kick my boost up higher, I remember when I removed the old Edge comp it had a boost elbow that I also removed and replaced back with the stock one. It's packed away somewhere and I cant find it. A local diesel shop had one in stock so I bought it and installed it durring my lunch break today. I'm heading to S. Utah after work today (Unloaded) and will see if the boost elbow helps with the EGT's. I'll report back in case anyone out there is interested.

Boost elbow did the trick! Never topped 1050 deg the whole trip and more top end power. Time to test it out with my 26' camp trailer!
Still smokes a lot more than I like while taking off. I guess I'll have to figure out the sub programs...

I hope someone can give me a little help?
I'm not getting anywhere with tuning down the smoke with the Smarty.
I have played with most of the pre-set SW# settings and today started adjusting the sub settings, TM, timing & duration, nothing seems to help. I tried #5 & #6 TM with Timing #2 and duration #1 and #2. With SW#1, SW#3, SW#5 and SW#9
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I just want to go thru the gears normally without leaving a black trail behind me, I don't mind some smoke when getting on it.
From what I can tell the sub-settings when set, affect what ever SW# you program is that correct?
I'm thinking the TM set higher should help with smoke if the turbo spools faster?
I'm thinking the stock settings for timing and duration should cut back extra fuel that might be causing the smoke?
Hopefully I'm not thinking right
Fuel mileage took a dump too, I run up to S. Utah from Vegas about every weekend (Mostly Unloaded) normally get 18-19 MPG stock, with the Smarty the last two weekends set on SW#5 and SW#7, I'm getting 14 MPG. Much stronger on the grades but I was hoping for as good or better mileage.
I'll try SW#1 this weekend but it smokes worse than SW#9
Thank you!

I figured out the smoke was from too high of setting for the Torque Management, I dialed it back and can now find a level of smoke I can live with.
I think I am getting a handle on the Revo Sub-program and how it works, kinda a learning curve, the instruction really don't tell you how the different adjustments affect the SW# you choose and what the SW# are using for there defaults. That would be good to know!
