Smarty?
Smarty?
Hey guys, i have heard wonders about the smarty and what it can do, but i havent heard what it can do alone. is the smarty worth the money or do i need to wait first and then stack it? what will the smarty do alone to my clutch thanks for the help.

Well I've had alot of differnt power addatives on my truck over the last couple years. From a comp to tst mp3 comp, jammer 4's to mach 6's, and so on. but now I'm back to stock, but keep the smarty, just couldn't give it up
I don't even want to 'lend' it out for others to test it. Freeway passing is unreal compared to stock. I have 3.54 gears and 255/85 tires and it is effortless to pass people now. If I am doing 65mph behind someone, I can easily hit 85mph after I merge in front of them.
No issues with the clutch with just the Smarty. I just wish I bought it sooner.

Ya that would be great! the reason i ask is because i have some money coming in and i dont know wich to buy. The smarty, isspro gauges and pod, comp, or AFE intake. but i think if i run it wed.. that will help my decision. Thanks

This is the best way that I can explain the differences. The Edge is a race box made for top end performance.....comes in hard when the turbo spools & throws you back in your seat. The Smarty is made to smooth out the power band by fueling hard right off idle to the point where the turbo spools. It makes the truck more fun to drive because the Cummins does lack the WOW factor before spoolup. I would kill 2 birds with one stone & get a Edge Juice w/attitude. You will have a good running truck with gauges, protection, turbo timer & more. Smarty later on. Just my $.02

well, what does the edge ez do fueling wise, at what point? if i get the smarty and then the edge ez, from my friend, will i start to hurt my truck? "slip my cluthch and things like that? I can stack those right?
Well the lack of enthusiasm for a smarty stacked with a minor box is quite clear. A box like the edge EZ is made to trick the pump into it's full fuel mode. The stock ECM will not even ask the inj. pump for full fuel. Now you can either get a smarty (basically a different software for the ECM plus a device to get it there) or a minor box. Both will do their job by getting the message "100% fuel" to the injection pump. A stack of more than one of these devices will not get you more than the command 100% fuel to the VP4, so basically the power will not increase.
The whole game turns if you start to use a major box. (wire tap) The major box will circumvent the brains of the injection pump and override the signal to stop fueling by operating the solenoid by itself. This leads to a higher proportion of the fuel being injected and a smaller one being used for cooling in the injection pump. This will net more power, but does also put more strain on the injection pump. (especially if some other negative factors come into play like lack of fuel pressure, worn out parts etc)
The only way a minor box can influence a truck with a smarty installed is by adding more timing (which the smarty can do on it's own) and on the responsiveness and smoke level.
My advice is to start out with a set of gauges (kind of an insurance policy), then try to get enough fuel to the IP and then a smarty, add injectors, add turbo, add powertrain components as needed, more turbo, bigger injectors, water-meth, blow up more parts, etc..... it's addictive.

PS-I've stepped from an Edge Pulse (small brother of the edge comp, with wire tapped) to the smarty. IMO the driveability is much better, and the fuel economy too.
Maybe I'll add more air and a wire tap box like a redline and then..... but I need to win in the lottery first

I got the Smarty as my first power addon.
It makes the truck act like it should have from day one.
It removes the "safety" features Dodge made Cummins put in to make the Diesel work with their crappy transmissions (auto and manual).
Probably gets rid of some of the EPA crap Dodge made Cummins had to put in as well.
I spun the rear tires the other day, on dry asphalt, accidentaly of course.
I was all smiles, as was my son riding shotgun.
I've had guages for a while, make sure you get those first, then the Smarty.

ya gauges then the smarty its proably the best thing ive bought for my truck other than the gorend trans. i wont seperate with it, it changed the truck from a slug to a bullet and helps with milage when used alone and it can give you tire shreddin power.
Ok i am aware of the gauges, what do i need and can do with out for now. Its just i really want more hp, later i will get all the gauges i need. but what do i need for the small chips?
