Skyjacker 6.5" lift...little help
Skyjacker 6.5" lift...little help
Ok, I am new to the truck scene so I apologize for asking a few dumb questions. I bought a truck with a 6.5" skyjacker lift kit on it. The front setup looks fine but the rear has two blocks under each leaf spring. Is this normal? I am worried about them shifting or something breaking, and I want to try and avoid that. I swear the blocks have shifted already on the driver side, but I am afraid to really torque the u-bolts and stress them even more.
So I guess my questions are:
Are there supposed to be two blocks under each leaf spring?
How tight should I torque the nuts on the u bolts?
Is there a better way to lift the rear?
Does anyone want a lift kit LOL?
Thank you,
Paul

Yes it is normal. That is how my 6" setup is. And the blocks are fine and are not going anywhere if the bolt's are tight. You might double check how tight they are. but i would say there fine.
Wow... that is a REALLY BAD set up
. I would take that out right away. 2 blocks is asking for trouble. You're going to be getting huge amounts of axle wrap.. which will shift the blocks and break things. People use blocks to save money, but usually use one big one. If the second block is really small... its not as bad... but I still would never use that set up.
The better way to lift the rear would be to get a new spring pack or do a rear shackle flip. The flip will give you 5-5.5" of lift in the rear. So if thats not enough you can add a leaf spring or two to your pack. You'd also need a special small block that re-centers your axle since the flip will move it forward. So if you're going to keep it... shackle flip or new spring pack is the only way to go.
I'd go to a 4x4 or auto parts store and order something right away and get it done.
I've been building 4x4 rigs for 10 years now. I've seen a lot of bad things happen with blocks. Mind you this is all offroad in more extreme conditions. Extra horse power.. big tires... flex.... but still, I'd never run that on any truck I owned.

I will def look into those options. My only problem is that I have traction bars on the truck for the periodic drag race or pull and I want to try and avoid drilling new holes if I can. I appreciate all of the help so far...Thank you
