Silver 62

Does anyone have expierence with this turbo? My truck is a daily driver and im looking to fuel it with 191 dv's and 300 or 330 injectors. I will have my head o ringed and studded as well as a 4kgsk installed. I was looking at twins but i hear nothing but good things about the silver series and its a good bit cheaper to get a good single. Ill be satisfied with a 425-475hp truck. maybe 500 but who knows.

According to the twins list post, you can turn your stock turbo into a twins setup for less than a silver 62. Spoolup should be better, drive pressure should be lower, and you should have more air if you ever upgrade.

i read that the housing on my hx35 was too restrictive and spinning the small turbo too fast can be catostrophic. any input on this?

Yes and no. It depends on how you set up your twins. Lots of twins have been built with the stock turbo with good results.

Besides, you can upsize to a 14cm housing on your stock charger to help out. With a drilled WG divided, you shouldn't have serious boost creep problems at the 500hp level.

would a 14 cm housing be ok without an external WG or should i stick with the stock 12 and do an external WG? I am leaning away from the silver 62 and towards a twin setup with a s400 (Rips twins to be specific).

You can drill out the stock waste gate to 38mm (stock is around 19). You'll need a new flapper and what not, but you can stay internal.

Would have to be fabricated. Do a search on here, there is a thread on here about a guy doing such a thing. Can't remember who though.

I've heard where some guys have used a cut chevy exhaust valve for a flapper.

Talk to Rip about what mods would need to be done to your HX35. He's been down that road lots of times.
