Silencer Ring

Got a 97 2500 CTD, and was wondering where exactly the silencer ring is and what it looks like. I looked pre turbo and saw nothing that could be removed, so would that mean it is already gone. Turbo doesn't seem that loud compared to a PSD or duramax, even the new Dodges. If anyone has any pictures of one with and without it could you please post it.

Thanks Adam

Ok so after about 1hr 30 min of trying to get that "piston ring thingy" out i give up. I stabbed myself with a pick thing, then cut myself with the screw driver when it slipped off. Any body got any ideas on how to go at this because it seems like i have to put 50lbs of pressure just to get the ring to pull down a little bit.

lets see if I can explain this without pictures. first take ya a screw driver, medium size or so, at the ends of the "ring thingy" one side is ct in a slope down and the otherend slopes up. Take your screwdriver, and put it under the end that slopes upwith it facing strate at the turbo. Use a twisting action to gently lift that end up, you'll be able to get it up high enough that you should be able to get another screwdriver under it to pry it on out. Hope fully that makes a little sense. It's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it, maybe a 2 minute job.

Stick a small flat head screwdriver under the ring where I circled it in red. I used a small eyeglass repair kit screwdriver for this.

Then after you prop the ring up and out of the groove in the turbo, take another flathead screwdriver and stick it under the ring so it doesn't go back into the groove. Using two screwdrivers slowly work around the entire ring propping up a little bit at a time out of the groove and holding it out of the groove with another screwdriver.

I got mine out in one minute, drove for a week by myself, then after one minute of driving with my wife, she made me pull over and fix that annoying screech. Twenty seconds after removing the intake boot, it was back in.

Thanks for all the help guys, i guess it jsut wasn't my day. Let my dad give it a try and he had it off in 2 minutes. Couldn't believe it but i sounds pretty sweet. Haven't done any full throttle stuff but at about half throttle it sounds nice. Heard it sounds even better with an exhaust

Do you have a bhaf or aftermarket air filter? Then you can really hear it. But don't expect it to sound like a Powerstroke.
