Screwed up Hypertech Power Programmer III. Please read.

Hi guys, I thought you could give me an opinion for my problem. I e-mailed this same message to the Hypertechs tech support.

What do you think? Did it copy something from my friends truck to my truck?

"Hello!

I have a hypertech power programmer III and I have only changed my tire size with it. My truck is a 1998 Dodge Ram Cummins I6 24valve turbodiesel.

And this Power Programmer III regonises it as one. 1998 Dodge Cummins.

My friend came to visit me and he has 1999 24valve dodge ram cummins.

We tried this programmer to his truck if we could change the tire size, and this programmer said it's a 1999 and asked the basic questions, but after enizialing the computer it starts writing the computer but nothing happens, I can see the percent chart and after several minutes I took the computer off and put it to my truck, and it says the programming was interrupted and it starts to change my tire sizes...

Everything went well. It still works on my truck like it has all the time. But now when I put the hypertech on my truck, it says that my truck is a 1999 dodge cummins and not 1998 as it used to be!?

Did this programmer install my friends 1999 software on my truck?

If it did, what things it changed? We didn't use the tuning option, we keep the factory settings, only tried to calibrate the speedo, but it didn't want to co-operate with my friends truck. And it sort of was interrupted then I guess. But it works fine with my truck, but what happened when it says my truck is a 1999 instead of the old 1998? did it copy something from my friends truck or is the Power programmer just messed up? Thank you!"

had exact same thing happen to mine hypertech told me my programmer was trashed, i had a few more problems though, my overhead no longer read mileage my voltage gauge did not work properly anymore, it copies info from on truck to another. i bought mine used and it did this, i had to send it into hypertech and they had to preload my truck info back in. that is the only way to fix it w/o putting in a new ECM hypertech made me buy a new programmer to load the settings on about a $350 fix or a new ECM is about $600 sorry for the bad news

Oh no... this sucks. The year model change doesen't bother me, and I don't have a mileage cluster gauge. But what does it actually change from my truck? The whole pcm or just the identification details?

We kept the factory tuning on both trucks, only changed the tire height, which wasn't completed on the other truck.

I went for a test drive and everything on the truck works as it should be. But it says its a 1999 Dodge on the Hypertech Programmer. Is there any differences for a 9 of 1998 built and a 2 of a 1998 built Dodge Ram programs?

I did had a dealer reflashed version of my from the may of 1999, but I don't know what was the purpose of that reflash. Anyway, if I have the 1999 Dodge program now, that dealer reflash is gone then I think. Unless someone knows what things this Hypertech power programmer actually can do!

When DTT built my transmission they asked me about the dealer re-flashed ecm... What did they do re-flashed in our trucks back in the day?

im not sure what it all controls but my ran good to, but my voltage gauge would drop to 0 on starts checked this w/ volt gauge it was 14.6 where it should be, had guys tell me it was ok to drive like that, but it was just one of those things that annoyed me so i had it hypertech fix it, best bet would be to call hypertech and see what they say, im assuming all you use the hypertech for anymore is tire size so your not out much if programmer is junked out which i have a feeling it is????

My hypertech works fine for it's every single aspect. It just thinks that my truck is a 1999 instead when it said it was 1998 before.

But which year did your hypertech said that your truck was? 2000-2002 are different than 98.5-99. And gladly the truck was only 7 months younger than my. Also it was an automatic too.

My voltage meter did act fine, my trans shifted correctly, my outside temperature worked fine etc. There was no changes at all.
