Scotty is THE MAN!!!
I recently had a set of gauges and a low fuel pressure LED (made by BD power - set to come on if FP drops below 5 psi) installed on my truck. As soon as the low fuel pressure light was hooked up and the truck was started, it was on. All the time
. I had 4 psi at idle, 2 psi as soon as you touched the throttle (press tested where gauges were installed). Into dealership for a new LP
, as it is still under warranty. They installed the in-tank kit on it, and eliminated the LP on the side of the block. That was an improvement, as now my light would come on only when I got into it, about 1/2 throttle and over 2000 RPM. First, it would flicker like a strobe light, then it would come on solid if I stayed in the throttle. I could make it come on at will, even with the Superchips on the lowest setting
. On the higher settings, it came on even sooner. Oh well, looks like I need to upgrade something. The LP is "OK" as it is new, and gives decent pressure when I'm not gettin' in the throttle. Another thing was, noe that the LP is in the tank, it's even more of a PITA to change.
Anyhoo, I started searching the web for something to improve my LP that didn't cost me too much $$ (I'm cheap). FASS looks nice, but around here, they are $600+ (not gonna happen - see above). Looked into the Vulcan kit, seemed OK. Then I stumbled onto Scotty System after reading about it here. I did some checking, and - He lives in the same city I do!! I gave him a call, and he offered to come over and help me install one of his kits if I bought one. He said this was the first he had done on a truck where the in-tank LP had been installed, and was curious to see what was needed.
About 1.5 hrs later, it was in. No issues or snags with the install. I took the truck out for a run, and no light. I thought to myself - it must not be making a connection, as the wire was soaked in diesel, and I hadn't paid attention when I first hit the key if it came on before cranking or not. I'm no mechanical genius, and am still learning the diesel stuff. My screw up I thought
. Brought truck back into my garage, unhooked the sender for the low fuel pressure light, sprayed it with brake clean, hooked it up again. That's all clean, and must be making a connection I thought. So, I cleaned up the mess in the garage, put a few tools away, and let the FP bleed off as the truck sat, and went back out. I hit the key to "ON" position, light was on. Cranked engine, light goes off as soon as it fires - like it did before. OK, light is working. Go out on the road, find an empty stretch, and floor it. No light....ever, not even a flicker. I backed out of it at 75 mph or so, and 1200* on the pyro
. I swear it "feels" like it has more power too.
If you own a 1998.5 to 2002 Cummins, you NEED one of these kits. They're easy to install, very well designed, and work as advertised. I only wish I had an actual gauge rather than just the light to see how well it is really working. I can tell you no matter how hard I get into it, or how long I stay in it, it doesn't allow FP to drop below 5 psi. And hey, I can vouch for Scotty, I know where he lives
.

Insert Swellin Melon here.
Thanks for the great feedback. With what you described I was really concerned that maybe you had a dud new lift pump. I was thinking the worst result would be that the light came on later. Glad to hear it did what it was designed to do with the stock pump!
Next week injectors, then the transmission, o-ring the head, divorce proceedings, new place of residence, lift kit, etc etc.
You guys are always picking on me...at least theres something there to pick on.

on edit:
Not too often you hear about a vendor making a housecall.
I have done a few...Hohn in Cheyenne Wy., AlpineRam in Immenstadt Germany, W.V. and now a local call in Hooterville.
A few times in ID and UT over the years too.

Dewey, I have been down that way but so far this summer no plans to be in MB.
Hohn, when you get there, let me know what kind of toys are on the base and maybe we can make it happen. We did a series up here at 7 bases. Maybe we should set it up in the USA to eh?
We would love to come over there!

Hi guys, alow me to chime in if I may... The Scotty kit that ib516 is talking about, is this another fuel pump, or is it just bigger fuel lines and bigger fittings for more flow? I hope I dont sound like a total idiot, but Im in the market for something, anything that will increase the life of my pump.
Thanks!

Im looking at purchasing this system also. I have the in-tank POS and gauge reads 7 at idle and I can bury the needle with half throttle
Anyway my question is, did you eliminate the dummy block with the scotty kit or just change the fittings?
