RP synchromax in, Redline MTL out
I changed my tranny fluid (5600).
Royal Purple's synchromax is in place of the MTL. Shifting seems QUITE a bit better than the MTL. Maybe it's not fair to compare 25K mile fluid to new, but the RP is much smoother. I really like Redline stuff, so this is sort of hard to admit.
Spec-wise, RP synchomax is not as close to stock spec as MTL is. It's thinner by a difference of ~7 to ~10 Cst.
Since I wanted to give it a little more viscosity to bring it closer to spec, I made the last quart a quart of RP 20w-50 ENGINE OIL. In reality, I only got about half that quart in before the tranny was full. So it's probably still below spec a bit.
Remember, 5 qts at 10Cst would substituted with 4qts of 7 Cst means that the last qt has to be almost 22Cst to make the viscosity the same-- not gonna happen even with a 20w-50.
By hook or by crook, this is the smoothest shifting I've EVER had from my 6-speed-- especially once it's up to (EDIT: temperature, not speed).
I'm a RP believer.

I just put it in our 97 and have another 4qt for the 99. The 97 does seem better but I need to get the trans out and replace the pilot bearing to get a good comparison. I can't wait to see how it changes the 99.

i put it in my 5600 as well a few months back...with the fast coolers on it holding some extra capacity i couldnt get all the old fluid out...so hopefully when my 5.5qts filled the tranny there was some old in there to help the viscocity but i must say it shifts awesome. ive always had a hard time getting it in gear from a standstill, but once moving i can shift it much smoother, sometimes so smooth you'd never know it was a manual.
also if i want to i can bang thru gears and rarely ever miss a shift.

I put the RP in about 20k miles ago, and it seemed like the shifting got even smoother after about 5k miles on the new fluid. Considering they say the stock Penzoil fluid is a lifetime fill, I wonder how long I can leave the RP in it? I plan on going at least 50k on this fill.

The fluid looked and smelled PERFECT. I almost felt guilty for draining the liquid gold ($8/qt).
Then I shifted the trans with the RP.
I no longer have ANY guilt about changing it.
