Question Replacing a clutch

How hard is it without a lift? Can I do it on the garage floor? They want a fortune to do it at the local grease monkey shop.

Sucks.

Can I do it on the garage floor?
Yep. Been there, done that twice in the last 5 months. Still have the greasy tshirt.

How much are they asking? It shouldn't take them more than 5-6 hours labor at the most. I pulled mine the last time in ~2 hours. Only 10 minutes of that time required an extra person to help lift the transmission to the ground.

Putting the transmission back in is a larger task since it needs to be lined up perfectly. A little DonM advice is to lay behind the transmission jack & use your feet to manuver the bellhousing in place. If you're installing a dual disk, save yourself a bunch of trouble and throw away the stupid plastic disk alignment tool. Use the tranny's input shaft to line up the disks. If you need more information or need that section out of the factory service manual, let me know.

Ive helped with a few clutches including my own and we did it on the garage floor the trick is to jack the back end up and sit it on jack stands this will allow sitting room under the truck, a tranny jack is a must for a quick job we had mine out in less than an hour the last time. The hardest part is getting the cross member out but its not too hard just beat it out one side at a time in a downward motion.
