removing AFC and fuel plate

I was once told that you can remove your AFC housing and your fuel plate to run faster. I have a lot done to my truck and would like to get into the 12's. Do any of you have any advice.

I have also heard of this but many say that it is not good for the engine. This could result in a runaway engine. I am not sure exactly sure what the problem would be but I think it has something to do with the restrictor lever. Maybe someone else here could give you some more information on it.

Govenor lever, actually.

There are some that are running plateless, and have the AFC housing gutted. IIRC, there is somone who is making billet covers to go where the AFC housing is. One is made for those who run plates, and those who don't. Don't remember who is making them.

I wouldn't mind finding one.

Gutting the AFC will not harm anything. Some belive running without a plate will,

Heat reasons

i have run my truck plateless for a smoke show only LORDY DOES IT SMOKE WITHOUT A PLATE!! OMG!!! EGTS will skyrocket, but the truck runs hard, and with my case even smoked at idle.... I dont do it often nor will I cause it will also mess up the governer arm..... If you want that extreme a gain, go with a zero full forward, if you can live with the smoke, and high egts.. anything is better than plateless....

Well you arent far from 12's so try launching techniques, and if you want to try a #0 plate, just buy a stock plate off someone,a nd grind it completley flat. Shouldnt cost you much, and would be worth trying. I feel you would gain some with it.

Grind it flat with respect to what? Make it so it looks like an L or just a flat plate ---. I just got a cover to replace the AFC today. I have the stock plate and might try grinding it. If any of you can show me a pic or better explain what to do that would be great. As far as launching I launch in 4x4 with around 30psi of boost.

For a zero plate grind it flat straight down at at a 90° angle from where the top of the plate and the notched part come together.

Bad idea to run without a plate as there is a pin on the governor arm inside the pump that can break off, $1200 repair. Some people get away with no plate for awhile but it will eventually get the pin.
Many people who have raved about how great it is without a plate against educated advice come back later with their tail between their legs wishing they had listened.

If you do a search there are some real good pictures of stock plates that were ground down to 0 plates. A picture is worth a thousand words, right!
