removal of the stock muffler,?

Just wondering if it would be to loud to remove the stock muffler, and the resonator in front of it and just have my local muffler shop run a turn down behind it?

I ran my truck for about three months last year with the muffler & resonator cut off. The pipe stopped just about under the rear seat, and was VERY loud in the cab anytime you got much above idle. When towing or especially going up hills towing, you can forget about having a conversation. It was kinda fun, but much better with the straight pipe on now.

Do a search for "muffler removal". I took the measurments I was given on that post and went to an exhaust shop and had them bend me a peice to the dimensions specified. Went home and cut out the old one and wammo.......straight piped for $20!!!! Definitely the way to go.

Just stick a straight piece of pipe in there. It will change the tailpipe angle a little, but should work.

That's how we did it on mine, and my friends, and my uncles.

I bought the Muffler Eliminator kit from Genos. Still running the resonator and full tail pipe. Sounds good, not too loud.
When it comes time to replace it I'm going 4" straight pipe.

while we're on this topic, aren't resonators usually installed after the mufs or does it even matter?

Don't think it matters.

Different placement will result in different tone of the exhaust is all.

Reason they are before the muffler in the 2nd gens is that was where the Cat resided in the 12 valvers.

I don't believe they are.

Still, a great company to do business with.
