Recovery Vehicle
Recovery Vehicle
How to outfit a recovery vehicle.
Here's the finished front end.
Denver Offroad Bumper, Warn 12K winch, couple of 6ton shackles to attach Fords and Chevy's.
I really need to get some big bright lights to put on there.
Weatherguard crossbed toolbox for storing all the recovery gear.

Now my backseat can actually accept passengers.
Here's the gear:

Axe, Hi-Lift jack, Shovel, little air compressor, 4"x30' 40K# towstrap, 4"x10' 40K# tree trunk strap, 3/8"x14' chain, cigarette lighter spotlight, 2 sets of leather gloves, jumper cables, little 2"x14' towstrap with hooks (for the Toyotas), 2 more 6ton shackles in case the vehicle doesn't have attachment point, winch remote cable, huge 12K ****** block, reciever shackle mount and shackle, and the storage bag.
I have a chainsaw I can throw in the back, but I keep it locked in the garage to discourage walk-aways, also don't want the toolbox smelling like 2stroke gasoline.
I have numerous tools under the rear seat, sockets, wrenches, wire, gaffer tape (duct tape)
I also keep a mexican blanket under the seat both for keeping warm, and throwing over the winch cable or straps.
Here's the new personalized license plate that says it all.

I'm going to get a frame for the rear plate that says "Ford and Chevy Recovery Vehicle"

I work at a TV station.
After I bought the truck I got stuck.
Had to hoof it 2 miles to find someone to convince to come back and drag me out.
I made it my mission to never get stuck again, well, to the point I couldn't get myself out.
And to be the helpful samaritan for someone else who gets stuck.

Guy in Colorado, Grand Junction area now, builds them for fun.
I can dig up his phone number if you're interested, I think they're running around $1,600 bucks now.

You really need to get one of Lanye's Rear bumpers. You could stow a great deal of your recovery gear in there.
Also have you looked at the Max Ax?

Very handy tool to have.

That does look handy.
I also need to get me either a http://www.danforthanchors.com/deepset.html or a http://www.pullpal.com/
One is about 60 bucks, the other around $500.
Guess which one I'll be getting first.

That is a good looking setup. When I used to go four wheeling I also packed a 100ft of one inch double braid nylon with eyes spliced on the ends. Good for a long reach and can be jerked if needed, sometimes the fords and chevys get themselves in a real pickle.

Hmm i take it lockers or arbs are in ur future too? SWEET!!! anyhoos, howd the stuck come about? share the story...
I have gotten stuck in sand only cause my POS factory 4wd went out... kinda hard findin a full size rig capable of pullin out one of our trucks... id say so at least.. Lockers in my future? maybe a rear detroit.. for now.. arbs are too high up. I have a powertrax, but i got a rude awakening it was a limited slip...pulls both tires nicely but when one is in trouble.. it isnt a lockrite.. put it to u that way...

I hate getting stuck. The second time with my Jeep YJ, I had to walk 5 miles out of the NJ Pine Barrens until I caught a ride to a friend's house. After that I grabbed a 6 ton come-along from work. That thing is slow but will pull anything. Once I get a tool box in the black truck, it's going in there as my primary tool.
