I am gonna do a rear brake job on my truck this weekend. I have read on here about replacing the wheel cylinders with GM one ton cylinders. Would that be a good idea on my 92 and if so which GM cylinder? Any other mods I might do while I am at it? Or anything else I should check or replace while I have it apart? Any special tools I will need besides the 2 9/16 socket?

 

Dodge issued a TSB for 3/4T trucks(up to 1998) that are consistently hauling near the GVW. They say to use Dodge 1T cylinders. 1998 and up come with them. They fit perfectly and really do make a difference. I tow a 10K lb. 5th wheel RV and the braking difference is very noticeable. when reassembling everything make sure the self-adjusters are working freely. I put a light coat of never-seize on the threads after wire brushing them. My rear drum brakes are very hard to adjust, I must back up quickly and slam on the brakes to get them to function anyway, A mechanic/ neighbor said most Dodge trucks are this way, that is why they wear out front pads so quickly before replacing the rear cylinders.

 

Use the Napa #4637337 cylinders, they're larger than the Dodge 1 ton and fit perfect. Just give them the number, they don't need to know what it goes on, seems to just confuse them.
I've changed out lots of Dodge 1 ton cylinders to the GM sized cylinders, everyone has been impressed with the improvement. With your '92 it will be even more noticeable.
