JR Adkins!

He makes an HX-55 Hybrid that is pretty wicked for a big single.

Do a search on it

You'll definately need more fuel than your pushing now.

lets be more specific,

will i need a "hot rod" vp-44, what size injectors will i need, what time of box will i need, timing and fuel, or fuel alone

also, will i need to o-ring the head, head studs are a given for anything over 45 psi

even with those mods, will i still need to add propane or nitrous to spool it quicker?

i might have a deal on one locally, real cheap, and i need to know how much ill have to spend in order to make it worth while, if i have to rebuild my entire engine then forget it, i'll go with a hx-40

Does anyone out there know what it takes to run turbo this big by itself??

EDM 100 hp injectors, will work great with a HX40, add a comp box for good times.

It will take quite a bit of work to spin something like that. O-ring either the head or the block, I would run like a stage 7 or 8 injector 200 hp plus then a drag comp or redline box. something with lots of fuel and lots of timing and then to top it off a dual disk clutch from one of the big two, EEP or Haisley. If you can do the work yourself prolly about $4000-5000

We had a JR55 on our race truck with DD5 with a DRAG COMP and it was laggy but it had some great power behin it plus LOTS of smoke. I mean we had smoke at idle almost. But some people run a 55 with big injectors for single chargers when pulling and most people use HT3b with 22-26cm housing for twin setups. Like a common twin setup is a HT3b/22 with a Hx35/14 which is a good set for DD5.

truck is not being sold...god worked in a mysterious way...that morning i posted the comment above and a classified on one of my local forums...i got a phone call a few hours later, my insurance was being dropped substantially each month

then my boss came in with my paycheck, i opened and noticed a decent raise...all in the day i thought i was selling my pride and joy.

any will not be installing this set-up on my truck, the info was needed to fight a battle with a ford guy who knows as much about diesel motors as i know about quantum physics

as for my set-up...hx-40, stage 3 injectors (DD's or mach's), comp with no wire tap, SBC con ofe

To help to spool what ever turbo you buy tap the wire on the VP box. The extra fuel helps wake her up. Its like night and day differance between the two. With the injectors you listed, the hx-40 is a better turbo and will out perform a HX-55 in the mid range boost levels. My thoughts are a HX-55 would be pretty laggy to drive around without lots of fuel. At full spool shes great the HX-55 and would out perform a 40, but highway drive and around town its wouldn't be so much fun but that depends on your foot. Twins are so sweet

hmmmm ... hate to disagree with all the experts but

my HYBRID 55 is great

i'm running dd jammer 4's

no smoke at idle

can run all day with low smoke (if i try), less than my first gen with the pump turned up

just the injectors will spin the turbo to 28 psi

my wastegate is set at 43 ... with drag comp on it'll flip up to 45

this is my daily driver

505 horse out of a stock block/head with this charger says it all

over on tdr there was a recent post about the little 55 that stated 40 psi preturbo at 50 psi of boost ... that's better than some twins

Anybody know what mods it takes on a 12V to make one of J.R.'s 55's driveable on a daily basis? More specifically, on a 160hp P7100. If it is not possible with a 160 pump, how many cc's of fuel do you need to flow to make a 55 a daily driver?

give J.R. a call, he is a great guy to talk to and his 55 hybrid is (in my opinion) the best single to sledpull, tow, and just have a good time driving. you do have to have some fuel to move it but if you don't have alot of fuel ask him about his smaller chargers. here is his number:317-281-3130.
