Smile Rain Cap ...

Hi guys
The next project for my new to me Dogde is a single stack ... I just ordered everything to do my exhaust ... I'm going with a 4" stack ...
My question is about the flaping rain caps ... How should they be mounted to work correctlly ... I have see them mounted in every direction ...LOL
I am assuming that if I was to pick I would say it would face toward the passengers and up towards the drives side .

Thanks Guys

Greg

Sorry to hijack but I've always wondered how guys with mitered stacks deal with water.

A guy I talked to while waiting in line at the bank told me that his just blows out what little bit gets in there.
I had visions of black sooty debris all over his bedsides......

If it's a daily driver, how much water could really end up in there?

Most prefer to drill a small hole in the lowest part of their exhaust system to act as a drain for the water, I have not done that yet and when you get a good amount of rain it will blow a sooty mess on the top of the cab and in the bed, although it does hose right off.

You can put the flapper any way you want it. No correct position for it. As for the mires. You get suit everywhere when it rains if you dont have some kind of drain. My buddy sure does anyway.

They do make "socks" to put on your stacks to keep the rain out. Only downfall is you have to wait to put the on as the stack would be hot.

Even after a good 6 hour rain storm my truck fired right off the bat with twin 5" stacks. It made one helluva mess though. I need to stop being lazy and drill a hole.

I've seen a few that put the "Mother-In-Law's Tongue" on their stacks, later post the the constant Ping/Ping/Ping of the flap opening and closing at idle would drive them absolutely NUTZ.
I guess it would depend on how heavy-light you make the counter weight.

I am going to run 5" Stacks with the rain caps. I think that would be cool as heck! You can get several types of rain caps. They have ones that are silenced so you dont hear the PING/PING/PING (Of coarse that is the reason i want them!!! haha!). I just dont see many trucks with them and, haha, i work for JD. AND every tractor has them...and they call to me.....wanting to be on my truck.......haha.....

If you guys are looking for a place to build exhaust systems .... check out a company called Air Flow systems ... they have everything encluding cummins exhaust down tubes ... you can build a killer exhaust from there site .
